Yup, second sun dried batch. Never sun dried before this year. Always boiled or fan. The previous batch is perhaps the smoothest I've ever made. (I say that every year around hashtime) Almost like hitting a vape, caramel buttery flavor. Not a heavy stone but very potent. This batch was gooier and darker red. Rougher hit...no caramel. Strong effect in body stone.
Im gonna run a couple batches tomorrow. Sun dry one and fan ona heat mat in a cupboard for the other.
Hey guys, the iso is gonna have to wait about 3 weeks. I just my new mixer for my drill, and I have been waiting for it to try out these new bubble bags. So Im doing a run of bubble instead. . But I will do the 2 seperate batches when I harvest in 3 weeks.
Ahh rubish... All you need is a sonicare toothbrush, a spoon and some tape. Then you can make a sonicating stirrer that works pretty good for the bubble bags. Drill probably still works faster though so....
Doesn't yer old lady have a 12 inch vibrator? After your Frisco trip there must be some big tool in your bag you could use.

Just made some iso hash today. Unfortunately, all my flowering girls just couldn't handle the summer heat on the 2nd floor and I cut them. They should have been 2x their size at this time, but was constantly battle heat stress n shit and nothing I was doing was saving them, so they got put into the hash. Got a nice sticky orangish tanish ball with a very smooth smoke. Like it alot.
Ok...ran another small batch and here is the process I use and the results. Trim goes in a cheesecloth and gets tied closed with hemp twine. And gets stuffed in a wide mouth jar to which iso alcohol is added. use enough alcohol to fully cover the trim. 1-2 minutes of agitation gets a wash that looks like this. Evaporation in sunlight brings the wash and subsequent hash to this color. The finished product is the same color as posted earlier in this thread for previous batches dried in sunlight. Tests on levels of sunlight exposure show that longer exposure produces a more pronounced effect. The same pheno dried in a double boiler last winter produced a green tinted hash that blackenned upon the heat created by palm rolling balls. The drying method is the ONLY variable. Same pheno, same brand of iso, same drying pan. cheers
So Res have you noticed any difference in the effects related to the amount of sun exposure? Do you like the more red product better than the tan/blonde? I do, I feel the red stuff I've had makes me more mellow, relaxed, and a little jiggly. Getting stoned just smoking some bud usually doesn't make me laugh but the red hash does. You noticed anything different like that?
Well, I'd say we have a definitive theory, well on its way to becoming fact. Nice experiment and observations. Now the question is, why would sunlight make it change color? Perhaps the sun degrades the THC faster in an oil state, causing the red color? (Same as the degradation of THC causing the amber trichomes). I would think to determine that we would have to have some pretty serious lab equipment. Skunky, get to work!!!
When it comes to deciphering the chemical process I'll leave THAT to you guys. Way outside my realm. I just know what I see. Skunk- The red burns smoother, a very very mild toke...almost feels and tastes like a vaporizer hit. Here's one to think about Useless, the red gives me a more clear clean high than the green. Opposite of what you would expect if your theory of a similar breakdown to that of trichome glands is correct. Both have a good melt. edited to add: Here's some idle speculation, you guys can tell me if i'm nuts or not. Like I said, chem processes are not my bag. Could exposure to UV or sunlight help break down excess chlorophyl or other polarized plant impurities in the wash? Now I know I'm stoned and the hash is talking but I'll continue and make a complete fool of myself......If so, could it be such a breakdown that then tints the wash?
I noticed that as well. I did 2 iso batches. One outside for a few hours, the other only dried via dehydrator and the outside batch has a redish color where the inside only had a greenish hue and the smoke from the red was smoother. It did have that hash flavor I remember. Maybe the sun is causing the chlorophyll that is drawn out to react? The chloroplasts have multiple color spectrum. Maybe the extraction into the alcohol and then the sunlight is acting like the same process that happens in autumn and the leaves turn reds n shit breaking down the chlorophyll and making a smoother smoke, same as a bud cure.
OK, so yours is green when you dont dry it in the sun? Mine is always golden. Hmmm. Interesting thoughts. Something to ponder on.
Did some searching for ya Res and UV does breakdown chlorophyll. So that could have something to do with the smoothness.
Greenish hue. Once its really concentrated, its much more brownish, but after all the alcohol was gone (not the water yet), the outside had a redish tint, the inside one remained yellow greenish. I didn't over soak. 1 minute in a mason jar then through a filter.
thnx Skunky. That's what my gut was telling me. If it's true and there is little concurrent breakdown of thc then this could be a method of improving the quality of iso-hash without needing to step up to hexane or butane. Besides.... the red has "bag appeal". I pulled out the hash tin for some friends last weekend. 15 grams of assorted colors and textures from red/pink dusty hash to gooey sticky black tar. They kept playing with the pan hard red stuff, picking it up and scoping it. I'm out of trim here and need to wait until fall to play with iso anymore. Might run hexane or butane extractions this winter to try and isolate a purer wash and gauge the coloration effects. If it associated with chlorophyl breakdown the color effect should be less with a cleaner wash. Could be you NEED a slightly polar solvent to get the effect. thnx for the insights and advice guys....cheers to ya, BTW...Useless-you done frothing the bubble hash waters with that dildo drill?
