Nice work Joe. You gonna be toking a little this evening? I strain through whatever is handy...t-shirts, cheesecloth and prefer to wrap and tie. Just easier. The silver flakes are bits of the pan nonstick surface. Get them when I can't find my pyex...damned kids!

Looks like GK is becoming red hash central lately. Gonna do a gooogle of "red iso hash" and see what we get. Yup....top billing. It pays to be esoteric.

Hey joe, you know you can always scrap that stuff up and put it in the corner of a sandwich bag, just try to put it directly in the corner so there isn't anything stuck to the bag elsewhere. Just press it between your hands and it will turn a darker amber/brown. Tear the bag along the side and just peal the hash right off the plastic wrap.

LOL...I did that exact thing Skunky.

In all I ended up with two balls. One the size of a marble from the sfuff you see above, and another run that ended up the size of a nickel, but a ball.

It tastes just okay, but this was some old, very dry, bagseed grow, nasty trim, and was more to learn how to do it. I'll let it cure for awhile and try it again.

my best guess is that the flowers had trics gone (way amber)---you harvested over ripe trics and while your quality was high the amber trics bleed though showing red.

Nope, we already killed that theory. That was my initial guess too.

Make some more iso from all my clippings. Such a nice pleasant smell and so pure this time. Nice deep rich amber brown and bubbles like mad.

How do you store a big ball of it? I've only ever made enough to smoke for the night with a bud kind of thing, this time its a bit more, lol.

And how dry should I let it get? It still has some moisture when I move it on the glass its on right now, so I just razor that wetness up once it dries and put it back on top of the ball.

    Update

I was making another batch of Red Iso and it occurred to me I haven't updated this thread. I found the cause of the red coloration and smoothing of the toke. Using UV or sunlight in small doses to break down or bleach any contaminating chlorophyll serves to "soften" the toke of the final product. Care must be taken to closely monitor the solution while exposed since THC and many useful compounds also break down under UV exposure.

Once the chorophyll breaks down the solution will turn amber. This happens very quickly depending on the intensity of the UV source, in a matter of minutes not hours, so don't set it and forget it just yet. Move it to a dark place and now forget about it until the solution has evaporated and your hash has thoroughly dried.

Here's a link to the research that confirms the breakdown process for chlorophyll suspended in solution.

Thought that would catch your attention. Doesn't have much use in a low polarity extraction, but for cooking oils and high polarity extractions it can really improve the end product.

Cool guys, nice thread RR. I've got around 15 or so going outdoor and if all goes well I would like to give the 1,3,5 min ISO a try. Just made some for the first time using wawonna's method, didnt have much skuff so my end results are tiny-barely pencil eraser size. I also have a uv reptile bulb and might try using that to see if I get any red coloring. I know y'all figured out its breaking down chlorophyll but I'd like to see if I can duplicate the results without setting it outside. Hope some of that sounds semi right.
