    Perlite

Found some perlite and vermiculite at a local nursery. 4cuft perlite for $18 and a small bag of vermiculite for $5. I saved a lot of money by not paying to have it shipped to me.

I like this nursery because it's run by old hippies that know a lot about plants. I went to H.Depot looking for perlite and asked the only guy working in gardening if they carried it and his response was "I don't know, I'm just the cashier." Nice :rolleyes2:

I will add dwc if I end up with more than 8 good plants.

    frow in soi indoors

Hi, I've grown indoors in soil for 10 years and find it easy (but hard on the electric bil). I use 2 ballasts with 1,000 watt bulbs. The floor is covered in a tarp that is changed with every harvest. I feed nutes dialy and yes, slowly. I found a slight problem last year with humudity which I solved by building a raised platform (well, my hubby built it). Lots of air circulation and 35 palnts later I was pleased with a 9 # result. This is pretty normal but I stick to indicas as they give me more room. I tried permafrost last time and call it "wreck your day"...jeez, it knocks me down. One thing about indoor grow....ALWAYS dismantle and clean room with clorox (or bomb) and make sure you have no bad bugs lurking. Also, hang bug catchers (the sticky kind)..at least 10 at a time. If you see specks, get out your scope and find out what they are and eradicate! I also use disposable gloves and clean anything that went in the room with clorox before it goes back in. Saved me a lot of grief. Can anyone help with my query about outdoor grow starting now?? Thanks. Peace, Paulysllamas

I use a watering meter, have done since my first grow, dirt cheap from any gardening shop you just stick it in your soil and it tells you the dryness, allows me to know exactly when to water letting me go through complete wet to dry cycles, i bought it about 2 weeks into my first grow when i realised how hard it was to judge. No batterys or anything, just a meter on a stick with a needle pointer.

Hempy is not soil, nor is it hydro, somewhere in between. The perl and ver are always moist, so a meter wouldn't tell you anything other than something you already know. You have to use judgement in the intial waterings, that's what the weep hole is for.
