Aren't Hotshots terrible for flowering plants, though? *Edit* I suppose they wouldn't be as bad for the veg garden, though.
Alternate between neem based and pyrethrum based products, both are natural extracts...although I'm not sure what the M.O. is, on using the pyrethrum in flowering. Honestly I would not dare spray them that late in flowering, because neem oil is some nasty shit, and naturally you're gonna get it on the buds too. ,
I've heard you can use Neem up to three weeks from harvest. I'm not going to give them anything for finishing flowering. The veg room is going to have to be where I concentrate most of my efforts!
You texted me before and I couldn't really give you the long answer to your question. Ideally you wouldn't use foliar sprays of any type past about week 3-4 of flowering because of the risk of molds and whatnot. For pesticides you might go a bit later, but you'll end up smoking everything you put on it past that. For the new house, you'd probably ideally want to wash everything already there and everything going in thoroughly, veg and flower. Pyrethium sprays on all the plants thoroughly (or neem for the smallest ones if you want to avoid potential burn). Then before you move it in to the room, wash all the pots and equipment, especially anything that was at plant level. Then go through and wash the walls (I used vinegar) and the flooring in the new place to get rid of anything that might have been there before. While you're at it you can clean your reflectors, do a bit of a maintenance and filter check on the AC unit, etc. Moving or reorganizing a grow room is a great excuse to do all those periodic maintenance tasks. As for alternating neem and pyrethium, I heard you weren't supposed to do that. Pyrethium roasts everything present and neem interrupts the breeding cycle. I thought both was best - Azamax is both and recommends consistent application and raising the doses over time (pyrethium burns if it's too concentrated). I'd use whatever you have available and follow the directions on the back, but use them consistently. Might be worth doing when you move in to the new place for a bit too just to be sure.
The reason you alternate types of pesticides is to keep the mites from being able to form a resistance to any one given type through repeated applications over time. Just as bacteria have evolved to be resistant to many forms of antibiotics, insects will build a resistance to a given pesticide if it's overused repeatedly over a long period of time. Pyrethrin is a contact killer so it kills bugs through direct contact to their bodies. It will knock down a current population quicker than AzaMAx or Neem however the eggs will eventually hatch and that is where the neem or AzaMax does it's work. The newly hatched mites are more vulnerable than the adults and will die quickly after their first feeding of the AzaMax or Neem before they can breed and lay new eggs. Another alternating treatment of pyrethrin will kill stragglers that either were resistant to the neem or simply fed from an area that wasn't sprayed well enough. SO by alternating you help to reduce the insect's ability to build a resistance as well as cover any gaps in the treatment process. Other effective pesticides for mites are Diatomaceous Earth, FloraMite, Sulphur Dust and Sulphur Burners, and plain old dish soap, and I like Ed Rosenthal's Zero Tolerance as an alternative.
I've been looking into using FloraMite in the future. I'd use this in the veg room, and some DE for flower, if I had to. I'll have to hit up the hydro shop, and look around. I went and bought a pyrethrins based spray for like $6 bucks for now, to alternate with the Neem. I would like to avoid chemicals of any kind in flower, for the future. I'll definitely hit them with whatever I can, though. DE or Mighty Wash would be the only things I've been considering for future use in the flower room.
You're right about not spraying them in flower, especially with any harsh chemicals. DE or Mighty Wash should be fine for flowering. I never spray past week 5 of flower on an 8 week strain. As for the FloraMite, it's definitely not organic. I wanted to be 100% organic back when I was first starting too. I tried and tried and tried to beat them using only organic means and failed time and time again and suffered lower yields and buds with mites due to it. I finally gave in and used FloraMite but I followed the directions on their website. It says not to use closer than 6 weeks to harvest so I never use it on flowering plants to be safe. Also it says to treat no more than twice a year with it. The thing is if you treat really really well the first time you won't have to worry about them again. I mean you gotta make sure you get the spray on every single square millimeter of those plants in veg. Allow your flower room to be empty for a couple days and wipe everything down with bleach and you'll be done with your mite problem for good, provided you don't somehow reintroduce them to the room. Once they are gone a periodic neem spray won't hurt just to be safe and the plants actually seem to like neem foliar sprayings. If it's actual neem not AzaMax it actually has small amounts of nutrients that the plants can uptake through their leaves. asssit:
Disco's Garden 4/29/13Here are the ladies! It has been a while since I posted any pics, so I figured I would once again update my grow log. After growing these girls for the first round, I am convinced that the Querkle I had was shit. I was trying to force a shitty pheno, to do things it did not want to do.I believe these girls are about 6-7 weeks into flower. I pushed the harvest dates back a few days to accommodate for the Auto Mango. I want to harvest all of my girls at the same time for this round, because I will not be flowering anything again until I move. Enjoy the pics! These ladies come down in 24 days.Purple Kush: View attachment 17846 PermaFrost: View attachment 17847 Crack Dragon: View attachment 17848 And here is the veggie garden. I have 2 Eevee, 2 Purple Kush, 1 Silver LA seedling, and 1 Crack Dragon. I have been taking clones in veg only now, and I am proud to say, that with the "Clone Scotty Clone" thread and the help from LV.... I am now at 90% success for cloning with my DIY Aerocloning bucket! Crack Dragon is currently in the cloner to get my count to two of each strain. This site has helped me learn insane amounts about growing my medicine! Hooray to all of you, and a big thank you to everyone who has helped me! This veggie garden is currently Mite free, and I plan on keeping it that way from now on! Coming along very nicely. I forgot all about Scotty's cloning thread. Glad to see your success rate go up! :bravo:
Well, the Re-Veg failed, and I believe it's because I don't have enough leaves left over at the end of my grow to really do much. The buds just slowly die, so I need to keep my plants healthier, if I were going to do this. In other news, a seed I got from the Sky Dragon has germinated. I am also germinating two Hawaiian Snow. They went into a cup with water about 36 hours ago, and only one of them has popped. I would like to see if it germs by tomorrow, but I am thinking I may have paid for a dud?
One of the seed plants in my current grow didn't pop after a few days. I put it in a pair of pliers and carefully cracked it along the seam and planted it as usual. About 4 days later she was poppin her head out of the soil. That plant has since turned out to be female.
That figures. Just like a woman. Always having to be coaxed out of their shell so they can put on a show for us.
All three seeds in the cup have cracked open! Turns out, my apartment was too cold, and I needed to make it a little warmer. The only reason it's cold now, is because my A/C is back to being vented out my window, instead of into the rest of my place. Brr! Two of my plants have also been transplanted into bigger containers, and all of the vegging ones have been sprayed generously with pyrethrins. Fuck Mites! They aren't going to have a chance at returning! (I hope)
All 3 are above soil, and you shall see my garden pics next week. I am stoned and feeling too lazy for a big garden update.
Disco's Garden 5/13/13Here are the girls with 10 days left of flowering. I still need to find a way to keep the fan leaves healthier throughout the grow, but the buds are turning out much nicer than the Querkle ever has. Purple Kush: View attachment 17928 Crack Dragon: View attachment 17929 PermaFrost: View attachment 17930 Here is what I've got cooking in the Vegging room, also. There are two of every strain that I have, except for Silver LA. I have not taken clones of her yet. There is Crack Dragon, Silver LA, Purple Kush, and Eevee (which I have not flowered yet): View attachment 17931 These are the seedlings that I started 9 days ago. One of them had what looks like burns on them, which I am assuming is because of heat. It was the only one that had the issues, and I had not given these seedlings any nutes until today. The two on the left are Hawaiian Snow, and the one on the right is Sky Dragon. The other pot seen in here, is a Calla Lily, that I am going to start growing on a regular basis: View attachment 17932 /monthly_2013_05/DSCN0509.JPG.aa498e7c8c4807b6da16b90dabd359fa.JPG /monthly_2013_05/DSCN0512.JPG.21c257f20a21f10b524ac4b50c6a92f9.JPG /monthly_2013_05/DSCN0513.JPG.ff0fb7b21c87a8887cd3a0931d946361.JPG /monthly_2013_05/DSCN0516.JPG.0c2780a8c1dcf8e823e0005aa95a7266.JPG /monthly_2013_05/DSCN0518.JPG.d8958dbe22a0abadd75ebb131d47364d.JPG
Been using Molasses, but no CalMag in flower. I didn't know if these two were good to mix considering that Molasses already has Calcium and Magnesium in it. I didn't want to overdo it.
