Week 7 for Magic Kush and Week 2 for other flowersIf this is the first thing your looking at, go back a page! I got my veg pics uploaded before this post! It's the beginning of week 7 for the kush now. Week 2 has begun for the Querkles, and BB x TW. There has been 6 inches of stretch, that I have measured since putting them into the room. White hairs have begun appearing at some of the nodes. The Family: View attachment 17165 The Kush View attachment 17166 The stretch has brought the plants to near equal height View attachment 17167 Another angle View attachment 17168

Transplanted the rooted clones so I could keep close to 60 days of veg time before they get flowered. I only have room for three more 3-5 gallon pots if I get another green tray, which should be happening in the near future. One will be ReCon, and the other two will be Querkle and BB x TW again. I'm going to run these strains for a while, until I can find another indica strain to run.

The Veg room 2 weeks before flower...The Vegging plants are getting bigger! Hooray! I need to find a better container to keep the pots in, though. This grey one isn't letting light beneath the canopy now. View attachment 17180 Sour Diesel View attachment 17181 ReCon View attachment 17182 Querkle View attachment 17183 Blueberry x Trainwreck View attachment 17184 For CFLs, I am happy with these results. Not as fast as I want, but I'll still be able to harvest once a month with this. I veg for 2 months before flowering currently, with 3 -4 being moved around the different stages of growth at a time.Any tips are greatly appreciated!Flowering pics will be posted later today, sometime after 7 PM PST!

Beauty, man. Can't wait to see what the flowering ones look like now. Should make a nice comparison with where that massive wounded soldier was at the same time :)

Leaves are way bigger this time around. I didn't have control over much before the Kush came into my hands. It was almost yellow before flower. Never buying anything but clones or seeds again!

This time around, it's been FF Nute Sched at full strength. I also add Dr Earth Bud and Bloom Booster to the soil. The other flowering plants have already grown taller than that Kush! Only three more hours to pics!

Btw... Thanks for the compliment, man! Got a question, though. I'm about half way through my Grow Big, and have three quarters of Tiger Bloom left. I am going to run out of veg nutes first, obviously. So could I use the GH soil line for veg, and use up the TigBlo if I needed to for Flower?

My god man your tender care and ministrations have really turned that plant around! It looked absolutely godawful a month ago, and I wouldn't have believed you could have turned it around. You must spread some rep around before giving it to Discorilla again

Thanks guys! I want much more frost on the nugs, though. Hopefully it will shine in a couple weeks. Trichs are still just bubbles atm, so I know they're still working their way along.

Yeah, CFLs are nice if ya wanna save money. That's about it, though. The Kush was under CFLs for a month, before I flowered it with my HPS. I would have been better off using the HPS for it, but didnt have an a/c unit at the time.

The more I read on here, the formula seems to be:

Putting more money into grow=less time spent on grow + better results.

There is a lot I'll need, eventually. It is nice to have a cheaper system that'll help me build up, but it'll be even nicer once I have the gear to produce a pound and a half a month. That's my end game goal! When I can produce that much, I won't have to worry about cheaper power bills. Still at $150, though! Seems alright to me!

My goal is going to be all HID lighting, eventually. Got a ways to go for it!

  13. ResinRubber

    ResinRubber Civilly disobedient/Mod

Not always. I'm a budget grower. Give me $400-$500 and I can build a decent 600w HID indoor garden that'll put out 10-12 oz's a cycle and only requires about 1-2 hours per week to maintain.

    Light-ebay or craigslist $50-$150

    Exhaust fan $80

    filter $100

    soil, pots, nutes, duct $100

    Panda film/wood $60

    Total $390-$400

    Discorilla Shining like a Discoball!

Nice! Sounds like it can be done on a budget! I'd just have to have the cash for it.

Ultimately, I'd use all the CFLs I have for all the clones and plants younger than 1 month (at least til they die). Then, I'd go for a 4-600w MH for the veggies to finish getting ready for flower.

For flower, I want to add another 600w HPW, and expand the grow area from 3x4, to 6x4 or 8x4.

Res, would that price just double, to add room for phases? IE, do one of those budget setups for both veg and flower?

  15. ResinRubber

    ResinRubber Civilly disobedient/Mod

It can be done for less than double. You don't need the firepower or space for vegging. So you run lower wattage lamps that require less intensive cooling. My veg cab holds 6 vegging plants plus my moms plus my clones/seedlings in an old computer server cabinet (about 7 sq/ft). Total cost, including the cab at an auction, 'bout $250.

  16. Discorilla

    Discorilla Shining like a Discoball!

It just seemed to me by looking at everyone's pics, that I would need more firepower to not have to veg the full 60 days. I'm definitely not going to toot my own horn.

I've seen plants half the age of my Blueberry ( mine is grown with CFLs), and about the same size. That's using HID, though.

I've got a limit on my medical card for 15 plants, so I've got to figure out a way to get the most yield, best quality, and kept on a 30 day harvest schedule. It seems like I'm going to have to do a lot to get the type of yield I want per month. Maybe I won't?

I appreciate the tips and advice! Anything that'll help me hit my 1.5 lb/mo quota that I envision for the future!

  17. ResinRubber

    ResinRubber Civilly disobedient/Mod

24 oz. p/month? You'll need two 1000w or three 600w flower gardens fed by a 400w-600w veg garden. Start planning now because it may not sound like much....but that's a big jump techno know how and time commitment.

  18. Discorilla

    Discorilla Shining like a Discoball!

I know I need more than just a 600w HPS to do that.

I was thinking of going for two 1k HPS in an 8x4 area for flower, and then using a 600w MH for Veg, so the 600 socket and ballast I purchased won't go to waste. These upgrades will be purchased over some of the cycles, but not until I have a house! I may build the 8x4 area and buy 1 1k, with air cooled reflector, so I can run my other 600w in series with it. I'd have my 6 inch hurricane pulling the hot air out of them, and pushing it through a 5 gallon bucket filter I made. I use activated carbon and scented filter inserts to control the smell. This is about $30-$50 a year in carbon. the 8x4 is the max I could run, though. I could afford this in 2 cycles, so 45 days from now.

I could afford the other 1k air cooled reflector, ballast, etc in about 100 days from now. From the sounds of it, I could finish this 24 oz/mo system by March. Which would be about the same time that I get to go to culinary school! Woohoo! I've got all the time in the world until then! I'll start making my vision board for the new gear! Until then, watch my shit so I can get enough of a harvest to afford all of it! LMAO!

I'll also need to get a card for my wife, so my limit can be 30.

I know someone who hits around about the numbers you're shooting for, but he uses I believe 2400 watts flower 400 watts veg, the veg lights are T5s and he also vegges his plants for 2 weeks in the flower room before flipping 12/12. Using that 2400 watts and mostly high yielding strains he got something like 2 lb 14 oz or so last grow, and he had something like 6 big trees covering about a 5x7 space. He's not the greatest grower in the world and mites are a constant problem to him, but that's his baseline without CO2 injection. When he turns his CO2 burner on, he usually hits 4+ lbs per 75ish day cycle.

Been saying all along, you can't hit the numbers you want inside your budget. A decent grower with no screw ups can almost always get .5 grams per watt in a 60ish day cycle. You want three pounds in a sixty day cycle, so you'll need 2724 watts of HID lighting to hit that average perfectly. It can be done with good skills and 2k watts, but it's going to take a good amount of study to get there and even then nothing's certain. And on top of that, in order to avoid stretching out the time between harvests you're going to need the plants ready to go every 30 days on the button, so you're definitely going to want decent wattage in the veg room.

As for the nutrients question earlier, yes you can swap out and phase in mid-grow IF you flush very thoroughly. You don't wanna switch nute lines without flushing hard. It'll slightly slow growth for a few days while the plants run on water and suck up most of what's left in the soil, but it shouldn't stress them very much.

It's certainly not something you want to make a habit of doing or to do repeatedly in the same grow, but I think you'll be much happier with the price tag and the results from the floranova.

One last thing - vertical growers get more weight just by nature of the grow method. It's more efficient to hang bulbs vertically and cover the walls with plants. Set up perfectly I believe it's something like double the efficiency, but it's hard to do with a low plant count. You might want to look in to it - there are some threads on this site, but icmag.com has a HUGE forum devoted to vert/coliseum growing. Just something to think about. It has a big learning curve to it as it uses some unique techniques, but it could help you get more bang for your buck once you get in a house.

edit: oh, and one more. Any idea how much time's left on your bulb? Most people change them out about once a year.
