Which would be better

It's kinda like having a lamp on the table. The lamp will burn a 25 watt bulb or a 150 watt bulb. But it only draws whatever is needed. It doesn't draw 150 watts to burn a 25 watt bulb. The bulb draws the power not the lamp. So the power supply (the lamp) only draws what the fixture (the bulb) asks for. If that makes sense.

It's always better to have a circuit that's rated higher than the actual flow to reduce the resistance and increase the efficiency. Like Skunk said, it "could" run something even bigger if it were asked to. But it's not being asked to.

    Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for calling and asking for us....

You all have done a lot foot work on these LEDs here at GK. more info here than at the Main hydro shop in my area. The guy there told me he has never heard of onyx or Area 51. I gave him a brief description and he thought I was full of shit. I was sort of pissed, it's his job to know the market. I know they don't sell those lights but you would think guys at a hydro store would be more informed.

Your circuit is either rated at 15A or 20A max for ~120V AC.... Most likely 15A in a typical household(Two vertical parallel to each other with a lower 3rd ground prong, 20A have a perpendicular cross on the left side vertical prong inlet of the receptacle given that the ground prong is the lowest point). Why would you need a 7A circuit? You could run ~7 onyx off a single 15A outlet on a dedicated circuit with a plug strip before you overloaded it. I'll give you my A51 lights if they pull 7A.(which I know for sure isn't the case) LMAO

I read on Area 51 site where at the end of the year a whole new design will come out with 10w LEDs. Might be interesting to see these.

Jeff has a couple things coming out or in the developmental stage. Some 10W XLMs as well as larger wattage versions of the RW. Talks of 300W and 500W RW units as well sometime in the near future. But with the rage of the onyx, rightfully so for the price/watt, and everything it's only wise for him to make something similar. Waiting to hear and see more.

I talked to Mike at Rapid. He says the Onyx Bloom draws "about 3 - 3.5 amps." So I am wiring with just a wee bit more capacity for safety - I'm gonna run 4 lights per 110 circuit on a 20 amp breaker using 12 gauge, and then another circuit for fans and stuff.

I ordered 12 but guess what, he only had 10 left. He says as of yesterday he had 12, but somebody ordered two so now I have to wait :roffl:

I said was is so and so? YUP

As far as I can tell these are the best bang for your buck right now. Lets see what I can do with them.

Yes this should be good. Are you going to run two lights per table?

Nice Yeah. Still waiting to hear more about the driver specifics but DB kick said his were running around 3.2A. Not sure where I came up with the 1.7.... I need to get me a new killawatt to measure mine. But man so you ordered 12? Should do you well. Bet that was a decent discount too.

Yep and Mike from Rapid gave me a decent discount and the shipping was only $67 so I'm stoked. And he included the shipping on the two that dxe swiped out from under me that will have to be shipped later. :kidding:

I'm gonna run six 2x4 tables in flower under these harvesting three each month.

Are you going to have 6 or 8 plants per table. If you can flower 4 plants per unit that will be impressive. But with the overlap the multiple fixtures gives you it could very well happen. Good luck.

Oh, and those 2 that dxe snatched from you was his sales commission for pushing them so hard here at GK.:coolbounce: Cause a lot of those posts had sales pitch written all over them.:roffl:

Well if something works as well as they seem to have for dxe why not brag about and if it has made him happy why not pass it on?

I was just bull shitting about the commission. But if the man did send them a boat load of business it wouldn't hurt to fix him up. When someone helped my businesses out I showed them some appreciation. Showing gratitude is just good business. Look at all the companies that offer discounts for referrals.

Yep mike from rapid is a great guy to deal with. And things like shipping and tax and price per unit are variable.
