I love the hole in the wall places, more my type of excitement. Dark and dirty is the best places.

One can do worse than to emulate the late Great. A guy learns a lot by occasionally rolling in the weirder parts of our culture (and personal psyche).

The cat who now owns the club has been trying to start a reality show. It's called 99 problems and has a few teasers on youtube. Been like 4 or 5 years now and no takers. The place really is a historical icon of Minneapolis crime.

Took a little trip back to the Big Sky state. The opportunity came up to piggy back in on a photo safari on the Flathead Reservation and National Bison range in the company of a young local photojournalist familiar with the Tribes and area. What a treat!

The snow capped peaks are part of the Mission Range.

Had a close encounter with a mama bison and her calf. Honest to gawd the photos of her were done with a 50mm lens while trying to protect myself behind a useless scrub bush as she passed within 10 feet of me. Scared shitless is an understatement when she strolled by to look me in the eye.

This was not an intended encounter. We thought we were a safe distance of several hundred yards away when the herd turned to come check us out. They move fast and humans move slow. In minutes we were surrounded. They finally settled in and we skedaddled the other way fast as our shaky legs could go.

Feeling overdosed on scary adrenaline we searched the forest and found a quiet. not scary, group of Blacktail dear and a handsome young elk fattening up in the scrub hoping to get enough weight and nutrition to build a set of antlers worthy of fighting. Then there was this sexy little spruce grouse. Much more my speed than 1000lb monsters with horns.

All in all, a very very good day in the life.

Thoes Buffalo are huge It's nice to know that they didn't go into extinction It's a real trip being close to them.
That land is part of Americas best. You can tell from the pics you were definitely off the beaten path

Smack dab middle of the reservation. It helps to be with someone else who actually knows what they're doing.

The mama and the calf passed on opposite sides of me. But honestly I was too damned afraid to turn and catch a shot of the calf lest mama take the opportunity to grind me into the dirt. It was easily the most frightening moment of my life. All we could do was get low and wait for them to move on around us. I can't wait to see what shots the professional got. She was shitting her pants with excitement, swinging a giant lens around and snapping shots as if they were mere butterflies. I was shitting for another reason.

Bison can be mean motherfuckers. Saw one put it's horns through a horse. My wife was heading in to the pen to pet it. I almost shit myself. (well she did. She knew the bison and horse for years.) I'll stay on this side of the fence, thank you.
Watching them all must have been awesome and felt even better. What a sight and getting to see them all out in the natural. What a day.

This young photog arranged access to the summer range before it was opened for public summer use to do some photo work. The animals had just migrated up to the higher elevation from the winter range in the valley so they hadn't been accosted and annoyed by hordes of tourists yet. For me it was a once in a lifetime deal. One more off the bucket list. Felt like a real naturalist photo guy for a day, even if I was just tagging along.

View of the winter range and Flathead river valley. This is an important area for me. In 1981 ARCO was doing oil exploration in this region and the adjoining Bob Marshall Wilderness Area in preparation for drilling. I was one of the young protesters who marched in Missoula and later in Helena at the capital. We won that fight and this place remains untouched because of it. Pisses me off that the next generation is still having to have the same battles in other places.

That would look WAY better with an oil derrick, or maybe a giant light blue pipeline.

Lol, do you have heat in your home? Easiest way to stop pipelines is lower demand for their product. Convince people to turn off their heat

i heat my home by burning baby fur seals. I used to club em first but I got gout in my elbow and now I just toss em in alive.

I've developed a way to burn jizz for home heating. Jack off a few times a day and presto! Hand made renewable energy.
