Growing myths debunked (open discussion)

Is this for REAL or another MYTH debunked?


OK first i apologise for 'bogarting' an old thread but why start a new 'growing myths debunked' or 'questionable methods discussed' as i would have named it,lol,anyway the reason i am posting on this thread is cos i got a bit of advice from a fellow GKer(not UBB,lol) and i told them i wasnt sure about it so im putting the problem and proposed solution to the GK masses...


My flowering BIG BANG is growing fine but when i go to water/feed it in its 5gallon pots the water/nutes just flush straight through and i know its good to see some water or nutes trickle out the bottom but this is flushing straight out even though i have perlite,vermiculite,all the usual,etc in my organic soil medium and i cant figure out why as its the same medium,nutes,etc i used growing my K2 and POT OF GOLD just weeks ago before harvest.


So i got talkin to a member and he tells me to squirt some washing up liquid(like fairy liquid for washing dishes/cutlery)down the sides of the pot and it will stop the problem:qbluewacko: , but i dont like even using chemical nutrients nevermind using household cleaning chemicals on my grow:5eek:..


Sooo GKers i need yer help..is this a :Bs: method that could harm my roots/plant or do some ppl ACTUALLY do this shit?:bduh:Im VERY skeptical to say the LEAST:eusa_naughty:


BTW this member isnt new to growing and in fact has helped me out with a few neat tips from time to time.So is this a MYTH or a METHODCheers

Thanks for the answer,i thought the member was taking the piss when he told me that ,he i say to me to remember that anything from household detergents,cleaning products can be used for various things...like making bombs:icon_confused:

Only messing im 100%sure it does exactly what you says it does,also the member who told me is no dummy when it comes to growing so cheers.

I know where your coming from UBB,sometimes ppl(includng me:icon_smile 'bogart' threads that are from ages ago,proper time ago and the topic is kinda over and done with so it ,iv noiced,can annoy SOME members but seeing as this to me was a genuine GROWING MYTH then i thought why start ne thread for one question when we already have a great MYTHS DEBUNKED thred already in the recent thread archives so i got a valid reason so i get a pass this time i think,lol,but generally ppl get pissed when they go to answr a thread like "help my plants dying" and when they do their post they notice that the previous poster has just 'bogarted' a thread from 2004 or some shit ya know,but if its valid to the old thread IMO i dont see a problem like in this instance.Peace

Yea i can understand why ya thought it was el campesino who gave me the tip cos i know from talking to him and reading his posts that he aint got hydro and head shops all round him,hes in a region that aint exactly a metropolis of marijuana relted hops like i got here in Glasgow,etc and he does improvise a lot but so to does Randy,he gave me some tips one time about using localy produced organic honey as a rooting agent/gel and also he told me about using coffee in part of his compost mix,thats why i never ever think im the complete grower and doubt i ever will be cos theres ALWAYS soemone else that knows a lil more or has more experience and knowledge aswell as handy tips,etc.


The member who gve me the tip is one of our quieter members from the UK and wouldnt like me to say who he i,hes very low key but he posts and is active but wary....

I read this on an other forum and iv seen it mentioned several times recently about ppl urinating on their grow..SURELY THIS IS GOTTA BE THEE BIGGEST(excuse the pun) LOTTA PISS IV EVER HEARD..SURELY CAN ANYONE BACK UP THIS SHIT,HAS ANYONE URINATED ON THEIR GROW,IF ONLY TO "BOND" WITH YER PLANTS:icon_biggrin::icon_eek:Cheers

Member named>Smokey mc pot 420:Rangerdanger is absoloutly correct. i had been helping my friend last summer in a very secluded area where the closest place to get fert. was 67 miles away. he used the 3 oz.piss/gallon of water and the plants turned out great. although it doesnt smell or taste that way i wouldnt reccomend it because when the process is complete and its time to smoke it feels kind of weird knowing you or your friend has pissed on the bud. (not directly onto the bud, but you know what i mean) it just fells a little weird.

NITROGEN


As a result of a phenomenon involving growers' increasing predisposition for urinating on their plants, I'll take a minute to touch on this. Basically, urea nitrogen CAN be a good source of Nitrogen, but I don’t advise this indoors in small containers. There are too many variables to consider and monitor.


The problem with ureas is that they FIRST must be broken down into ammonium nitrogen THEN further broken down into nitrate nitrogen. Obviously this is a lengthy process so the grower must have a much better sense of timing and be much more accurate in the dosage because while nitrate nitrogen leeches out of soil, urea and ammonium N do not. Many growers do not see immediate gains from urea and mistakenly fert again leading to toxicity and pH nightmares.


If you use piss and are happy with results, you're likely an expert or just damn lucky. Knock yourself out...but wouldn't advise it. If you insist on the golden shower, I understand that pine bark helps to facilitate the nitrification process making ammonium nitrogen available more quickly.


That said, I would still STAY AWAY from ureas and ammonium....find a nitrate source. In addition to the above problems, I forgot to mention that if you use ammonium nitrogen ferts in the same medium as lime, ammonia gas will be produced, much of the N will leave the soil medium into the air.


Nitrate sources DO raise pH, which can lockup nutrients, so using them alone may require some pH modifier like iron sulphate, but chances are, you will be adding other ferts which lower pH.
