HappyJay thats an awesome set up, some really nice looking plants. Where abouts in bunnings would I be able to find those drainage pits, are they in the garden section. Looks exactly like what I've been lookin at getting to make a little DWC set up, and at $10 I have to get a couple.
Thanks for the props all, Yeh, I love my downhill riding, used to race competition but am no longer even in the field when it comes to these days riders. Now, if I could get the misses to get on a bike, now that would be a feat of epic proportions. LOL The pots are bloody great and are actually the 'everhard drainage pits', you can find em in the lawn drainage and plumbing area, where they have that channelling for easy install backyard drain etc, the black easy snap together stuff. The pits also come in a couple larger sizes that would be good for monsters. At the size here they were $10.30 a pit and around $11 for the top but well worth it as I have never seen horticulture pots this hardy and versatile.
Well, I have been on holidays for the past couple weeks, so things seem to be slowly getting done. I placed two orders with seedboutique and both orders were here in a week, one was 6 days. I have never ordered through these guys before and am rather happy with there service. I also have never grown out nirvana seeds befor so first I placed 4 white rhino and 10 Northern Lights x Big Bud. Due to the size of the NLxBB, I let em soak for an extra half a day, (don't know if it helped), and they still took an extra week to pop. Actually after a week when they hadn't popped, I looked and noticed they had all popped, but the shells had seriously constrained most and they had gone soggy on me. Got 5 through the soil with one retard looking one, the soggy ones had these weird little white worms living in the shells eating the rotten sprout??? Don't know, maybe nematoads, I ditched the soil from them pots anyways. I was only after 4 up of each so I got the numbers I hoped for, just hope we can get a 50/50 boy/girl ratio. Going to give the Rhinos one more week in the sprout tent then move em up to the 250MHVeg cab. As the NLxBB are a week behind, they can spend an extra week in the tent then they can join the Rhinos. I'm hoping this might also help with size diff as the rhinos would be more stumpy, indica in growth patterns I would believe. As soon as the current flowering girls are in flush, time for some real medicinal strains. Up Next, White Widdow and AK47 The Sunk Haze are going to be gifted to an outdoor grower friend with a shitload of clones from a Ducksfoot Girl I have that would be a monster outdoors. Might even give him the rest of the Rhinos yet to see what he can do with them, will wait to see what pheno of girls I get first. I have noticed my 'Bitch 1' of my bagseed is powering comparing to the rest, sort of reminds me of a skunk plant, so I have built a new cloner but with a few new tweaks this time. First I made sure the air tubes went through the bucket, not the lid, for ease of root and water cheaking. Next I drilled the holes in the lid @ 1" instead of my usual 1/2" and got some 19mm soft plastic hose to double up and hold the cuts giving more room to pull the roots through. I will be taking some cuts tonight so can post a build on these & cut process if some would like, however there is ample in the FAQ's. Take it easy HJ
Woke up and cheaked girls this morning. The big ducksfoot that was taking its time to flower in the cab was stretching into the fan so I went to bend the top and she snapped on me. I already stuffed the cloner full yesterday afternoon, so not to waste it, I threw the top in soil/clone mix, cut a humidity dome out of a juice container, placed it in the corner of the clone tent, then repotted the Ducksfoot into a nice big pot and put her outdoors. Might prep some soil up out back and once she thriving, put er in the ground. Shouldn't take long, she spent the day in the straight sun and loved it. Were only mid way through spring so should be a good size by next march/april harvest time. Ok 24 Hrs in and clones are still looking healthy. Cheaked water and all good. Lights just kicked in and I can't help myself. Went to water and one of the girls, 'bitch1', is starting to take shape. Checked the diary and this Sunday will actually be 5 weeks from flip, two & half, three weeks from flower onset. Man time flies, even when it seems to be standing still??? Even though its soil, the test pen was the first thing I saw to grab for size ref. She is from either bagseed or an old unlabeld, missmatched cross so I ripped of a couple clones incase shes something special. I note the sugar still hasn't started forming on any of my girls and I'm not sure wether it's my impatience, slightly higher than optimum cab temps or the fact I threw em into flower early?? All good, next round will go the full maturity.
Temps are rising. Well Summer is just around the corner and it looks like I have no choice but to set the aircon up. Night time temps, sitting in a well ventilated room with the fan on, are over 32'c never lone in the cabs. Seems funny, sometimes they will run up to a degree over the room temp, sometimes they will slip down to 2 degrees lower than the room, even whilst lights are on. I have one of those portables that you vent the hot exhaust out the window and put a tray under for the condensation. Will have to make up a quick brace or so to raise it as you cant fit a decent tray underneath, well big eneough to go to work without it overflowing. Its amazing how much moisture is in the air up in the tropics. Will also have to make a bracket in the window to hold the axaust duct. Its made to suit a 25mcubed room and its only going into an 18mcubed room so. Question is, does anyone think the room will have enough Co2 for the plants for most of the day, considering I can let fresh air in for a good segment in the morning and as many times needed at night? Or am I going to have to invest in Co2? The numbers aren't massive in my room but I never really gone to such a sealed environment before. I have to bring in tha aircon as the girls have started showing signs they dont like the heat and were not even in summer yet. On the clone side, all clones still look healthy and bumps are starting to form on the stems of the cuts. Might rip the retard looking NLxBB out leaving 4 of each to work with. Keep thinking of packing the clone tent with around 15 of the hempy's and dropping in a 250hps no veg for a quick sort of micro SOG but I must remind myself that I can't let the schedual be distracted. Damn this growing thing is addictive.
Sweeeeeet set-up and growing there ma good man! Notr been on ion a while. But all seemingly Great. Quick Update A quick update on the clones. Cuts taken Friday Night, roots visible by wadnesday. Nothing but water and a couple drops of superthrive. Got to love the bubble cloners
Nice Set Up HAPPYJAY I must comend you on your set up .First class with those 3 chambers. You must have done this before!!! Seriously though that is some professional growing cabnits nicely done!!!
Cheers Zep! Yeh, have had a few different grows but never had em planned out, just jumped in and started growing, one would say. Did a few bagseed grows under a 400mh that turned out allright, then managed to find out about seed companies. Once I ordered, grew out and smoked some good genetics, I was sold. Now I have always been intreaged by Herbsparkies and others parpetual grows, so this time, I decided to put a little more effort in. Hopefully, I can get the process and times all co-ordinated so we have an effiecient running system.
Week 4 of flower. Girls are slowly gaining wait, the stretch finally looks to have settled. Trying to skimp on power and try to use the a/c as little as possible. The house Im in has old wiring and the grow room with the cabs in only has a single powere outlet so have extensions from other rooms etc, just trying to keep it safe. Had to bight the bullet and start running the A/C full time now anyways as the girls were starting to heat stress, like it 33'C sitting here typing this, under a fan at 11:15pm in an open house with slate floors. In the Veg Cab weve had a little heat stress, expecially in the younger NLxBB and smaller rhinos. The first two rhinos to sprout have taken off though with the temps back down. Also couldn't help myself and put in 3 AK47's. One popped in 48 hrs, cant wait to morning to see if the other two are up!!! hehe The two on the left are the WR and on right is NLxBB In the clone tent, we have 100% roots, it may not look it, but they are there. Changed the water for second time for the process this morning and added a little nutie. Noticed a rapid form of the smaller web type roots just take off in the last half day already. Got to love these bubble cloners. In the whole process I have only topped up daily and adjusted ph, (easily done with a few drops of superthrive), changed out once at 5 days and again today. Got to a little buiding the other day and nocked up a couple HJ pimped homemade waterfarms, I ran em for a couple hour to see if they leaked etc, I love em. So went and built two more today. Tring to decide weather to slip some of these clones in for trial run or wait and run one of the new, more indica & controlable, girls. Anyways, Take it Easy HJ
Time to transplant. Went into the room this morning and did the usual system check. Decided to transplant the clones out of their bubbler and into soil. Most had good roots masses with only too or three having only a couple roots. All cloned pretty easy so I will keep the best 'bitch1' clone for a mom and the rest are going to be hardened to sunlight and donated to friend. Made me feel half confident for the upcoming real strains anyways. As I removed the bubble cloner from my clone tent I cheaked the Ducksfoot top accidently broke and decided to throw in soil, wel to be honest, I think it pretty well outdid my cloner. It is a day younger @ 11days, and had 3 seperate strong healthy roots out the soil allread, to top it off, it even looks healthier. My dodgey humidity dome. I was rather stunned given the fact I threw the top in the bin, had a cuppa, decided to throw it in dirt. No clone shit, just water with the drop of superthrive, too easy. Take it easy. HJ
Sunday Update All is cool in the cabs. The aircon has made a remarkable difference in the room and the girls seem to be reacting accordingly. Went out camping with the family and friends for the weekend so pulled the girls out for a couple snaps and a feed. Have to admit, I can now notice how well the scrubber works as when I open the doors to the flo cab, the smell just wafts. Gave the girls a little over 1/2 strength dose with the Flora Nova bloom nutes, decided it was time to give em a try. Also mixed up some extra week FN grow and fed the veg cab for the first time as they were starting to show a want for some N in the lower leaves. Can really smell the indica, (Afghaani) type smell, in the Rhinos. Have been massaging the main stems every couple days and will most likely start to train em and get some practice in supercropping and LST when they go to the next pot size. In the clone tent the Aks are powering, have got such the healthy rapid growth rate usually expected with Serious. Clones have taken to their new homes and took an extra week dose of ferts tonight to try get some color back into em. I thaught one or two may have been lost, went to ditch em but the roots on the worst one, (first one I went to ditch), were powering so I put em back in the tent to see what happens. Cool Bananas HJ
For the last couple days, I have been helping out a good mate fibreglass up his trout dory. To say the least, it has been quite fun. Today he offered and went to pay me and I told him I would take a couple trips out the reef for payment instead. So he slapped a heap of bud on me and told me fine. He also asked me if I was growing still as I used to unload to only him. I told him no I wasn't but the idea drifted around every now and then. He then asked if I wanted a fan, walked off before I could answear, came back and slapped a brand new 100mm centrifugal fan on the table. Told me he got it for me a couple years back but forgot as I have been away building bridges. Bloody beauty. Runs 30w, has a 120mm centrifugal fan with 100mm ducting, moves 40l/s and has a fair mighty bit of force behind it, you cant even hear it start up, never lone runing. Will switch the shitty old bath fan in the veg cab, thats quite noisy in comparison & has no pressure, and fit this in tomorry. Excellent. Ak47 1 week under flos. Healthy as and already hot on the heals of the nirvana strains. Northern Lights x Big Bud 1 NLxBB 2 Nice dense pheno The AK47's have me grinning with anticipation so I moved all my veging youngens and mom clones to the veg cab. I shut down the clone tent tonight, cleaned it out & packed it up. Will pull it back out in a couple weeks when I need to house a new batch of clones. Might try throw some of these newer big CFL's or some T5's in there for a try. The assortment of new flavors and a couple clones veggen.
16/11/08 Sunday Update It Sunday again so time for the usual update. I decided the problems I've been having with the lower leaves yellowing the Rhinos had to be they were rootbound or close too it. So I up potted all my vegging seedlings to 5litre pots. This meant I had to separate the youngens as all of them wouldnt fit in the veg cab. I decided to refit the clone tent and placed clones, AK47's and one NLxBB. Then 4 Rhinos and 2 NLxBB in the Veg Cab and ripped a slow growing NLxBB. In the clone tent we have the 3 AK47's that are rapidly putting the hurry up on the Nirvana strains. There is one 2 week older NLxBB in there and one clone of each Bitch 1 and the 2 DFoots. In the Veg Cab we have the 4 Rhinos and my 2 perso favs out of the NLxBB. In the flower cab we are starting to take shape. Most are around 6 weeks from flower starting(DF one week behind), definately alot of sativa in the girls. Sugar is starting but small amounts. Id say about 4 weeks to go but I will keep my eyes on em, might go longer.
All babies transplanted seemed to just keep growing overnight so I decided it was time to start some light training to promote latteral growth. A couple pics, RHS and LHS of veg cab. So far I have been giving each of the plants a good bend and massage along the main stem every couple days. Up close you can really notice the extra swelling between the nodes. Cheers anyways. HJ
24/11/08 Update Well GDay GDay, Was in the room tonight and decided to get a little snap happy. First up we have the babies in the veg tent. Note the two on the right have slight burn to there mid folaige, Im am yet to figure if this is hotspots in my soil (as the quality of the soil has varied and dropped in the past couple years), or weather these two are just more finicky on nutes as the rest of the veg girls get the same dose, and are not effected. I am going to switch soils anyways, not quite happy with whats become of the quality of this brand. Anyways AK47 @ 21days powering under flos. Good growth NLxBB showing slight burn to mid section, however still dense as hell and quite nice looking for under flos. I have decided to try and get 2 x 250w blue spectrum CFL's to go in here as well, might also upgrade the four normal 2'dual 18w battons in there for t5's. Have been pretty heavy handed with the training in the veg cab and accidentily snapped the top of one of the Rhinos, oops!! so threw it in to clone anyways, return of the budget clone dome. LOL As mentioned above, I been training the shi-it out of these youngens to try get these idicas to shoot some latteral growth and it seems to be working. The latteral growth seems to be taking off and the stems are thick and solid. They are a little missformed looking but I only released from training couple hours before the pics. Been tying the tips over and massaging the stems till the softly crack. This was the Rhino I wasnt so "soft" with. The sativas are surely taking there time to finish, just keep getting bigger, so I bumped em up to 15hrs dark to see if that might pursuade em a little. Took em to 14hrs a little over a week ago. Made some difference in em, but still not quite what I would like, hence the extra bump. Personally, I think the DF crosses surely are a waste of time and effort indoors, seems like they will go forever at the moment with no real weight at all. Bitch 1 packing it on. My lovely ladies in a row. Overall, I have decided to run these girls for another 4 weeks, 2 weeks still feeding, then 2 weeks flush. Dont really care if they finish or not, there giving me the shits. Want to run some manageable, value for the time, type strains. Have decided I might try get all youngens in veg, to a mature state, sex, rip some clones and run a SOG next round in the cab. I have been gifted shitloads of pelite so considering a 3 litre hempy SOG for the hell of it. Otherwise will run a couple clones in my new pots or bubblers. Im over un-ruely, dirty soil. I like the cleanliness, controll and results of hydro.
Sweet!!!! Lovely ladies in a row indeed!! Looking GREAT Happy......can not wait to see more pics and the bud porn to follow soon!!! ......happy growing to you and pretty ladies indeed!! Peace~mermaid
