Which one? In the top division (in the vids) there are 2 Bulgarians 1 Estonian 1 Russian 1 Brazilian 1 Georgian I think I got everyone there. There are also a bunch of Mongolians, including the Yokozuna and 2 Ozeki (the next rank down). There is also another Georgian and one Czech that used to be in the top division, but are now down in the second division. I, and many gaijin fans of sumo, like sumo becoming more international, but the Japan Sumo Federation made a 2 foreigner limit per stable, because they don't want sumo to be taken over by foreigners. The problem is most Japanese have zero interest in sumo and go for baseball or soccer, but there are plenty of people from poorer countries with strong wrestling traditions that are willing to give it try. There were 3 more Russians in the top division a few years back, but the young one dropped his wallet and it had his id card and a joint in it. Subsequently, they piss tested everyone and the three Russians and 1 Japanese wrestler were kicked out of sumo. http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1840739,00.html :danger:
Maybe you should change your name to Mr. AssTroll? Get it? Ha haa ahahahaha!!!!!! Seriously, you can quit trolling this thread anytime now. Your input is not appreciated. :buzzkill:
The first bout at the beginning of that vid was two white guys, Czech Takanoyama vs Georgian Kokkai. They are both in the second division, so I'm not sure if they were in the other vids. The Czech guy is really light, definitely the thinnest guy in the top two divisions. He's been around about ten years, so he gained a lot of muscle and skill, but he can't seem to put on any weight.
He name is Takanoyama. He's from the Czech Republic. If you search his name on youtube you can find many vids of him. asssit: Seems to be quite the technician.
yo Hank, i totally dig UFC, Kick boxing, martial arts, anything to do with fighting, but this is the first time ive watched an actual sumo fight, pretty cool stuff imo, keep posting more ...... on a side note....a few weeks ago I watched a movie about economics and numbers or some shit, and the first part of the movie they talked about corruption in sumo wrestling...i forgot the word they used for it, but they were saying stuff like anyone who talked about it outside of the sumo world would get killed and stuff, crazy shit huh?
Cheers, bro. I read that same stuff in a book called Freakonomics. There was some interesting stuff in there. Well, the tournament ended on Sunday and it was quite good with three people in the running for the title on the last day, two of them being lower ranked wrestlers and zero of them being the Yokozuna, which was veeerrrrryy unusual. The guy that took it through a playoff match at the end for a first title was a 37 year old Mongolian dude. Very old for sumo, much less to win a tournament. It was well deserved and I was very happy for him. Here's the last three days of the tournament. And, finally, Day 15, the finale.
