But...WTF. There are women who ultimately dont WANT to take personal responsibility for their safety and would rather depend on a gun than her Self. My guess is, Canna will live to regret it. Or maybe the next rqapist will be gentleman enough to patiently wait while she rumages thru her handbag.


The spike heels! I met a hooker who had gone to a hotel room only to discover the guy was a nutjob...he pushed her down on the bed and tried to straddle her, choking her all the while. She got her legs under her and began driving her heels into his belly super fast, like a machine gun, saying, "Ya gottas watch out for the HEELS, buddy!" He was bleeding from so many holes he looked like a pinata after a kid's party. She got away. LOL!

Everything is a weapon. A high heel, a sharpened pencil, a beer bottle in the gutter. A small can of pepper spray on a wrist strap is more effective than a gun in your purse. I totally dont get the gun thing as an anti-rape device, unless it's out in plain sight. In fact, Id rather have a realistic looking toy gun in a shoulder holster than a real gun burried under the other crap in my purse. How embarrassing would it be to get raped...while having a loaded gun in your purse that you couldnt GET to?

Whether it be mace or a gun it will be of no use unless you have rapid access to it. Carrying either one in a purse unless its in your hand will do no good if you are taken by surprise.

It's super hard to get authorization to even carry a weapon (gun) in CA, exposed or concealed. So much for your second amendment rights. You can own it, just not use it for anything in which it was intended. Personally I think it should be like AZ where you can carry it on your hip. Makes a perp think twice when they can SEE your gun right there.


You're best bet for personal defense is to learn how to physically defend against an attacker. It sounds silly but a Women's self defense class if taken to heart can be powerful. A man's jewels are pretty vulnerable to attacks of many kinds, and almost no man can even stand let alone chase you if their jewels have been compromised. Just a thought. I have a friend that teaches Kung Fu and self defense and I know he could show you a thing or two.

 

IN Idaho it is actually legal to carry a holstered gun in public as long as it is in plain sight. Just like the old days.

Same in AZ and many other states too, just not in CA. CA is the only state that doesn't even have a permit system for open carry of firearms.

 

I had a friend that told me he was never worried about picking up hitchhikers on the road. He would hang a 45 holster on the bottom of his steering wheel column in his truck. The gun was actually right by his side. He always laughed and said when they saw the holster they knew he had the gun.

Yeah, just knowing that a person is carrying a gun can be more effective at deterring crime than actually having to brandish the gun from a concealed place.


I don't want to take this thread down the gun control road though. I was just commenting that in CA owning a gun does very little other than to offer protection wile in your own home. You can't legally carry it without a very hard to obtain permit and even then it's my thoughts that a concealed weapon doesn't help in most instances unless you see the perp coming and have time to retrieve your weapon. A gun on your hip or thigh and someone can see it, well they're more likely to think twice about choosing you as a target, knowing that your armed. If they can't see your gun then they could be on you and not even know you have it and you don't get the chance to use it cuz they're already on you, well then it didn't do much good to even have the thing. Most criminals look for an easy target. A person with a visible means of protecting themselves is a much less likely target.

 

Dix I just wrote about the personal alarm around the neck and I never said anything about not taking defense classes. I am actually quite strong physically and read your message like 10 times. I can't afford classes, are there any FREE ones? It's not something you can plan for and you don't know what you will do until it happens to you. I was not silent or still but he was strong and used his knees legs and arms. I can afford one eventually.

Glad you got the Mace and the alarm, too. I have one of those alarms that is meant to scare dogs away, this ultra high frequency thing, but it also has an emergency alarm button. That sucker is LOUD. Please dont get a gun. Nobody taking as many heavy duty drugs as you are should try to shoot an assailant, seriously. The alarm PLUS the Mace will do the trick...without you shooting yourself in the foot!

Yup I am getting a few vaccinations, there is a travel vaccination place. I am going tenatively from Jan 2-Feb 4th or so. Leaving right after holiday rates. I have not applied for a passport because it might take too long the regular way so I am going with a fast track passport from San fran for an extra $40. You just have to prove you are going quickly with your plane tickets and have a spotless record. It takes 1-3 days. If I applied for a reg one I may not have it before I plan to go.
