WOO HOO!!! Go Grat! Lets get this party started. Are you planning on doing a blind taste test on an unexpecting buddy? I think that would be the fairest way in determining which one is the better pot. Either way I'm pulling up a chair and watching this grow go down! :tvlaugh: :new_popcornsmiley:
Update Well folks, I've got 3 El Niño sprouts, they are under a 65w 5000K CFL. I put the last 2 seeds in soil tonight, one had popped the other hadn't but I planted it anyway. This leaves me with one La Niña in soil, but it's not come up in 3 days...and 7 still on the plate. Un-popped:icon_confused: Starting to wonder if I should start the other 7 seeds. MKGuy - you know I hadn't even considered that. It sounds like fun. Trouble is it's SO subjective. This is a very Indica dominated market...will a Haze cross be judged as less because it's not hitting like a lead blanket? I hope to be as objective as possible with my smoke reports but I already know that I really want a nice Hazy lady in my cab for life. To me, which ever plant has the most uplifting effect is the better pot. Now that you've caused me to consider it, I think I will have fun with waiting to see reactions before I talk about my opinions...good call. I'm not gonna dog The Boy...it's still my stash we're talking about. I plan to enjoy it even if it is from the post-Shanti Greenhouse. Grat
La Niña seeds are looking like a few have started to open but no real tails coming out like the first one. I planted them anyway. I put them in an organic seedling mix with a pinch of mycorrhizae. Still on a seedling mat, loosely wrapped in a light weight plastic bag to retain heat and humidity. Here's hoping they come up. I'm thinking 5 more days and I'll start the other 7 seeds if I don't get at least 4 to come up. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks for checking. Grat
Seems to me that you have different rates of germing/early growth. Could it be that simple? A genetic thang? I bet they pop up....albeit a week or so after the EL ninos.... Note-worthy, if so? Hell, I'd say reeeeelax a minute! Me/tuned in man....GROW ON! :fly:
I started some seeds recently and some took 2 weeks to pop. Granted they were sativa dom hybrids but still, dont give up on them.
It's good to be reminded... what was the germination rate @ 2 wks? This doesn't seem to be that uncommon for this strain... I'd really hoped the the seedling mat would ensure good germination rates and speeds. Not giving up:thumbsup: Grat
3 out of 5 at 2 weeks but they were atleast 3 year old. I use my cable box as a heat source for germinating seeds.
A little disapointed, a little embarassed. Well folks, it looks like my questions about how best to squeeze a bunch of plants in there together are not so relevant. A Couple of things didn't go the way I thought... 1. Germination. I got 4 of 5 out the GHS Fem 5pk. 3 strong plants, 1 runt that may or may not make it. This seems to indicate that it's not the germination method that's flawed. Of the first 7 La Nina germed, 1 tired. It's still hangning out with the tip of the cotyledon sticking out but it hasn't grown in more than a week. I germed the other 8 seeds, 12days ago. I have ONE plant out of the 15seeds from the Mr. Nice, La Nina pack. Here's hoping it's a female. 2. Timing. I waited to germ my seeds because I didn't want the plant's to be too big before flowering. I started them 5 wks before the flower chamber was scheduled to be open. I'm wishing I'd germed a couple of weeks earlier now that I've only got 12 days left. So I've just transplanted the El Nino into 4" square pots. I'm not seeing anyway that this is going to work to grow them out with the La Nina plants that don't exist. I'm really wishing that I'd ordered my seeds directly from Shanti instead of getting them through Dr. Chronic. Dr. C still lists La Nina as "in-stock" but Shantibaba has advised against buying anything that is out there right now because he recalled all of the old packs several months ago. The new batch should be ready in a few more weeks but I'd hate to have to buy a second pack... I will if that's what it comes down to. As I see this grow not working out the way I'd planned, I'm thinking I can still do a comparison thread but it will just be successive grows. I surely don't want to buy another GHS seed pack as well so that I can start from scratch again... So it seems I'll grow out these 3-4 El Nino and then follow it up with as many La Nina's as I can get out of the next pack. Gotta say it's a bit of let-down right out of the gate... Still, I want a HAZE dominate Widow cross in my stash and stable pretty badly. The show will go on! Just not quite with the same gusto as was present in the first few posts...that's what I get for jumping the gun with the thread huh? Grat
I feel for ya man my first pack of seeds I ordered I got from the Dr.C where White -Widow from Dutch Passion got one plant out of ten a male & you know what I did with him. If you can't trust the vendors to give you the best seeds then what are you going to do.-Bud
Actually I am glad you started the thread. Poor germ rates certainly factor into a "grow off". However as you stated, Shanti had recalled the existing stock, so I would lean to Doc C. as the problem, by selling old recalled beans. Shanti recognized a problem and did his best to correct it, but he can't control what the vendors do. Still, a problem with a batch is a problem, and its good to have it documented. I would grow out your GHS stuff. Keep your best pheno, and grow that against the MNS. Then you know how each performs, we still get a side by side in the end, and you will still get to select the best pheno's from both (or pick just one as the best w/e you choose) and give us a report.
Yea that sucks, cause those even came in an old ass seed pack so no telling how old those beans are. I know my buddy got some shit from shanti about 6 months or so back and they were in blue/silver foil packs and in a plastic tube like the serious seeds packs. Either way Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
Shit HHHG. I forgot about the sheets. I will try to find them today if I have time, if not I will get em out for you tomorrow. I dont have any prints only electronic copies. I have 4-5 different ones, one I made that I use, and then some from Sam the Skunkman and a few other folks I got off the net. You can decide which is best for you. Mine is a pretty comprehensive excel spreadsheet, which is nice, but it is rather lengthy and you might not want or need all the details I have in them. If you dont see them posted today, send me a PM to remind me just in case.
We knew this already but... Hot DAMN! Shantibaba is THE man. I guess in this case, since it IS an option...go to the breeder I PM'd him last night on the MRN forum. I told him my story and asked if I could place an order with him for a pack from the new batch. His response... Just like that. He responded in something like 12hrs. Shantibaba, taking the seediness out of the seed biz! I mean really, if he will provide this level of service then why would I be afraid to "gamble" on more expensive seeds from a legitimate (understatement) breeder with stable, time-tested genetics? I'm looking forward to trying some of his other work in the future...but with my space limitations I may have my hands full for several months. I really want to encourage others to support Shantibaba. You will be doing yourself and the rest of the growing community a favor:thumbsup: Thanks for all of the interest and support. Useless - that's the new plan. I'll probably do some training on these because there are so few. After all, we are talking about my stash and I don't want to run out, just hope I want to smoke it(j/k, sort of). Clones will be kept to run along side La Niña. Solo - it'll all work out with the timing...just not quite like I though... such is the nature of working with nature. ff - it's not done yet:thumbsup: thanks. Skunky - this may be the only time I'm glad I didn't take your advice:laughing1: turned out PM'ing was better than letting it be. HHHG - thanks for bringing that up:thumbsup: I'll be posting pics of the "Boys" soon...sorta funny that the name of my feminized strain is The Boy. Just wanted to share:fly: Grat
Sounds like Shantibaba is a stand up guy & that's hard to find now days. That's good enough for me too give his seeds a try-Bud
Shantibaba I've had nothing but great service and he replies to all my PMs. The free Master Kaze he sent is really sticky and smells like lemon candy
