I haven't talked to him but a couple times, and GK wasn't mentioned either time. Hopefully he's still planning on attending the M-n-G.
He's supposed to be sending me some pics of his current garden and said I could post them up. Joe- Don't know..but my guess is he'll make it. There's a title to defend ya know.
Hey fellas! (And Geo, of course :not-worthy: ) Just double checking that the weekend hadn't changed or anything like that. I've got my request in at work for the time off, but some C-word slacker of a pharmacist (unfortunately with seniority) jumped ahead of me on the request binder for that weekend in July, making me the #3 person in line for the time off. I'm still hopeful on making it out for NAGC #2, but it may be a last minute yes or no for me since my boss usually posts out the schedule about a month in advance. Here's hopin'!
IM getting antsy about this. The time will be here before you know it. It may take a day of scouting for the proper camp if its ganby. Res are you getting ready for your trip to go see rocky?? t6
All set. Leave on the 25th, just need to pick a day to grab dinner with the Colorado boys. The girls and I will be doing a back country run on Berthoud Pass just south of Granby so we're going to drive up and check out the site.
SO hey guys, someone top of this want o give a summary here? Date? Location? BTW, after further thought about the boat place, I think that could a be a logistical nightmare. People with campers and trailers will have to be ferried back forth. Not so bad in the AM, but at night when everyone is already plastered it could be a problem. Stoned and or drunk boaters at night does not make a good combination. Just some food for thought.
I thought about the boat thing also useless. The boat site would have to be a open air camp or tent. No ferry after dark. Unless somebody arrived late in which case I can run lights on boat. Did you go and check this place out Res!!!!!!!!! Its creeping up so we better start getting a plan in order. t6
Drove up and looked at the lake and the biggest open span between islands is about 1/2 mile. Narrow and long. Very doable in a jon or ski boat. For camper trailers there's a couple sites on the lake itself. T6..that means a tent or cold rides at night for you bro. My home waters are the Mississippi, Lake Superior and a local lake with a 100 mile shoreline so big inland water isn't unfamiliar and this one just isn't all that tough. As for late night runs...besides waiting for Use and T6 to show there were no late nights. I'm about ready to make the pitch that the Granby site be elected for the next meet/Cup and be on with it.
I think we will be fine with the boat site. I am not worried about it. I have weathered and road a wild wind storm on lake powell like the ocean. 1/2 mile span is a peace of cake. Night running if needed can be managed with the help of a high powered spot light to aid in navigation. This site shows maximum security and no unwanted visitors. 1/2 miles we could even leave a fog horn at the parking site to set off for late arrivals needing a ferry over to the camp. I say we start planning for the gamby site and lets go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Teamster6
One of the things Rky keeps saying about that spot is that if someone isn't there early in the week to secure it, that there is no way it will be available to just roll in and grab. He's thinking someone may need to be there at least several days ahead of time if not more.
now lets see we are talking that the beach site only accessible by boat may be taken??? Well it seems we are going to have to secure the site in advance so if something happens we can make a second move to another site. t6
Yes, t6. Rky was originally planning on getting there Monday or Tuesday and camping all week just to hold the spot. He swears that the Granby spot is going to be really tough to pull off, and that's why he took that spot off the table early on. According to him, if there is not someone local that can get on site early that week and secure the spot, there is no way anybody is just gonna roll in and find it available. He's not sure he's even going, so I wouldn't count on him being that guy to get there ahead of time. I'm still on the fence, and may not be able to attend the entire event. It may be fine, but we might want to have a backup spot just in case. imo, the boat thing is going to be an unnecessary liability, and a pain in the ass logistically. I understand its doable, but what's the point? There are literally millions of other spots that don't involve stoners, drugs, alcohol, and boats.
Well Joe the boat thing really doe not matter to me. I was just willing to bring a boat to access the site. Looking at the lake site there has to be a thousand camp sites. Do you have any suggestions??? t6
Personally (I know I'm only an honorary member on the NAGC committee) I am thinking that if Granby is that busy of a spot, won't it be more patrolled by rangers and LEO? plus having lots of other people not affiliated with GK in the vicinity might put a cramp on our style? You guys would know better than I though. I'm just happy that we are gonna be able to go. We got a car and don't need to rent one now. How many peeps do you guy's think will actually come?
Ras I dont think the turnout will be huge but who knows. I have been checking out the ganby site and the boat trip would be at least 30 minutes each way. The actual boat stretch is about 5 miles. Alternate lake with perfect campsite is tarryall Resivoir. Will allow fishing by boat but no whitwater wake. No boat trip though and easy to find. Looks like a better site. t6
Is that the one Rky sent today T6? It looks like Tarryall is set way back from the water source and close to the lake has a lack of tree cover for shade at the camps. If we are going to scrap Lake Granby... reluctant personally..then I'm going to throw this one out there. Webster Pass Road It has light use so competition for site will be minimal. A good creek, shade and I'm familiar with the area. Breckenridge, the nearest town besides Montezuma, is an openly legal MJ township. Here's a Google Earth Placemark for Tarryall And one for the Webster Pass location. If you want to better view the locations the Lat/long coordinates are in the bottom of the pics. Plug them into Google Earth.
