As I see it we're limited to California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oregon. These are states that have no required court appearance, minimal fine and treat under an ounce of MJ as a civil offense or petty misdemeanor. Oregon still ranks up there for me because if I'm hugely paranoid I can get a non-resident MMJ referral and be legal. Rhode Island falls out for me because it has the ability to jail for one year, mandatory court appearance and up to $500 fine for non MMJ users in any possession under 2kilos. So my current preferences in order are: (assuming NO Prop 19) Colorado California Oregon Maine How about you guys?
Just caught your post Rky. I like that thought of moving between East/West/Central states. Upstate New York could be interesting.
Well I guess from the talk we dont really care whether it is centralized or not so my choice colorado oregon california t6
Upstate New York would be interesting. We'd have to find out if it's feasible. California - Possession of 28.5 grams or less of marijuana is not an arrestable offense. As long as the offender can provide sufficient identification and promises to appear in court, the officer will not arrest the offender. Upon conviction of the misdemeanor charge the offender is subject to a fine of $100 . . . Possession of paraphernalia is a civil fine of $200-$300 for the first offense and goes up to $5,000-$6,000 for a fifth or subsequent violation within a five-year periood. I'm not going to court and I'd hate to get a bigger ticket for my pipe than my pot. New York - Possession or sale of paraphernalia is punishable by up to one year in jail or a fine up to $1,000. I just don't know . . .
I have been hitting the oregon campgrounds. All are heavily forested. tons of lakes. Most seem to have on site staff living either in the campground or close by at 10 or so that I have looked at but they are very beautiful. t6
One thing with Oregon is that is somehow your found with an oz of pot, your looking at a Class B Felony with a possible 10 Year and $100,000 fine. If two people are traveling together and one gets charged with both peoples pot . . . or they weigh the jar, like the did to me in Florida . . . or ANYTHING that puts 1 person over that oz limit, would FUCK them royally! Not too appealing to me.
Well scratch that one ha ha no way. I dont like the beaches along mendicino either as it has been lunch time for the great white sharks lately. hahha Teamster6
Well, I am NOT an ocean swimmer. I hate deep pools. All just points to keep in mind . . . I still like the idea of mixing it up and doing a 3 location cycle for the event . . . Colorado, California and ? . . . something East Coast.
According to NORML New York 25 g or less (first offense) civil citation Incarceration-none Fine-$100 25 g or less (second offense) civil citation Incarceration-none Fine-$200 The paraphernalia thing.....joints I guess. California is poised to fully decrim if Prop 19 fails bringing possession in line with Colorado's law. Colorado and Cali still keep coming back as the best choices. What do you guys think about timing it with a music fest?
After reading all the posts about The Laws in the proposed States........Colorado would be my choice! I do really like the 'Setting a Tradition' aspect. Going to a music fest would be a wicked sweet addition!! Showers are not a huge concern....keeping the forests free of shitty litter is. Privacy is important as well....Both freedom of smokin' and speech..as Rky pointed out. Might not get that in a place with cabins etc....although the Yurt thing would be cool! Maybe I can rent a Teepee!! I'm not too big on the idea of a 'money pool' for food/meals.......I think that simply 'assigning meals' would be much more practical.....that way each person can prepare what they wish to without limits or budgets!! I know Rky, myself. Rez and others would probably prefer to have more freedom as to the awesome meals we'd like to share with...and show off to....the group!! Plus...it was MAJOR AWESOME having a full sized stove out in the woods!! It's 6:30 AM here and I still have no fucking privacy!! So gotta go...I'll try to check back in again soon!!! Love You Guys!!!
I'm glad others are continuing to lean towards Colorado for 2011. I still think Colorado is the best option. I'd be saying the same thing if I still lived in California If 19 passes, I think Cali has some great places up north and would be a great location to host the event. However, my concern is having it in Cali such a short time after 19 passes, assuming it does. How are the Feds going to play the next move? In order to press Cali a bit for legalizing, they may start ramping up federal enforcement to unprecedented levels. imo, if 19 passes, Cali is going to be a huge clusterfuck for awhile. Maybe they'll have it worked out by next summer though. :roffl: I'm not opposed to eventually having it in Cali, but I don't think next years event should be. I also like the "tradition" aspect of having it in the same place every year. It just may take a few years to find that one perfect spot.
Old Law. That's how it was previously, when possession under an oz. was a criminal misdemeanor. Last month they changed the law to an infraction. This means the same fine ($100) but there is no court required, ever. Cali law is currently almost identical to Co. law. If 19 passes it will be better than Co. law in regards to possession under an oz. If Prop 19 passes, the casual smoker isn't going to be the feds concern. Feds are going to come in pinching people who are selling without permits and growing "commercially" (anything bigger than 5x5'). Come get me mother fuckers! The clusterfuck that will be Cali won't happen till next years out doors harvest. I like the idea of going central, west and east in a cycle. At least right now. New York is tight ass. I would not choose to attend in that state. As for Oaksterdam, if they are involved in anyway, I am out. Virginia Lakes cabins are spaced about 50 yards or more apart. Awesome fishing. Rainbows and German Browns all day long. There is always Big Sur also. Central Cali coast. Something else to check out. Humbolt/Mendo is always great, and totally MJ friendly. I agree on the meals. Just have people volunteer for a particular meal, say breakfast on Saturday or something. Then they are responsible for whatever they want to cook. Any meals that aren't volunteered for, we can as the committee can take up that slack, and if need be pool together funds for the food lacking. Not too big of a deal to have each of us pitch in a $20 or something. But if the entire attending group starts pitching cash, it turns into a nightmare.
All great points . . . I'm with Useless on the Oaksterdam thing. I have no interest in funding that enterprise in any way. Not my intentions. I have no problem with them at all, but it's like a plumber calling another plumber to do a job. Just not what I think we want to express. I think we need to see if we can find a friendly place on the East Coast to hold an event and see if we could have a local representation in the area to help with support. I think it would be sort of neat 5to do the rotation thing that way each area would have a regional gathering every three years. The regional rep's would then have 3 years to plan for the next event. I have ABSOLUTELY NO problem doing Colorado every year and I'd be happy to assist in any way I can, but I just want the other areas to have a fair representation. Hell, even alternating Colorado and California wouldn't be too bad of an idea to toss around either. 2010 Colorado, 2011 California, 2012 Colorado . . . end of the world so no other gatherings on this planet.:alienwink: :alien11:
I still have hopes of attracting a few of the east coast members in 2011 so unless Cali goes Prop 19 tomorrow I'm throwing in on Colo for 2011 in conjunction with August THC Fest since it's a more central point and we can have second go round to improve our game then Cali 2012. If we announce it that way we can put it up for open board input considering the east coast in 2013 with a suggestion of Maine heading the ticket. Maine- Usable amount with proof of physician's recommendation "Usable Amount" non-MMJ (under <2.5 oz) civil violation court/incarceration-none Fine-$350 - $600 "The state has decriminalized marijuana to some degree. Typically, decriminalization means no prison time or criminal record for first-time possession of a small amount for personal consumption. The conduct is treated like a minor traffic violation."
I have no problems with that either. I propose we find an "East Coaster", to possibly join our little group. Mermaid? HeadCase? Someone . . . I don't think we can make a fair decision about an East Coast Gathering, without a representative. Any thoughts?
Just for the record, I think I'll be voting for California, in 2011, if Prop 19 passes and if the first few weeks/months aren't filled with riots and arrests.:danger:
I feel that Colorado's MJ laws are the key....not necessarily holding our event in the same exact camping area each and every time....unless of course we DO happen upon an absolutely perfect spot! Colorado is a beautiful state...with many viable options that could also include 'outside' activities...like the music fest for instance.....or perhaps going during 'snow season' for the skiing & snowboarding.....so folks like Rez can be extra happy! Just so long as I get to stay behind cuddled up next to a warm fire with my martinis, a fat bowl & a good book while the Snow Nuts go get their nuts frozen!
