What you are suggesting- that fields is a radical Muslim and that the alt right were not the aggressors in va smells like fake news to me. Let's see a link or some creditable news source confirming what happened.

Just what I seen somewhere that was not reported on the other main CNN type brodcast. I will find the link and you can make your own conclusions, I wasnt suggesting anything except some news stations only report what they want with out telling both sides of the story.

So pictures of him in Vanguard white supremacist regalia at the rally doesn't count? His webpage of Pepe' the Frog and pro-Nazi material doesn't matter? All corroborated by multiple sources but they're questionable. But some offhand mention somewhere of possibly having a muslim name added to his and some unknown, unsubstantiated, fight breaking out is enough reason to doubt his intent? Come on man.....that's a pretty big leap and you know it.

I just have to jump in... BOTH sides (shit, it actually looked like 3 sides but whatever) showed up with helmets, shields, body armor and clubs. BOTH sides are to blame. The cops in the town are to blame also since they just let them go at it. It could have been stopped by taking the helmets, body armor, shields and clubs away and arrest all the ass's carrying them. You don't show up at a protest with weapons. ALL sides showed up for a fight. The asshole with the car? Fuck him. It doesn't matter what side he was on or his "frame of mind". He's a cowardly murderous fuck and should be put down.

i grew up an hour from Charlottesville and my folks are still there. I used to go there in high school because the next closest place there was a head shop was foggy bottom in D.C. I partied at UVA saw Dylan there, been to Monticello a bunch of times and with my kids. Freaks me out that this shit is happening. I think it's bad. I totally agree you don't go to a peaceful protest armed.

I have a very close friend who said he wished he had been there because he's sick of nerf fights and wants to get into a good old fashioned rumble. I think he was only half kidding. He went on to joke about how he needed a riot because his wife was on his case to get a cofffee table and he could easily loot one.

I am with LS, both sides showed up to protest and members of both sides showed up to fight.

Well the muslim name was a mix up from the name of the town he was from in OH. It was added like a last name on a report, its not even muslim, its a tribe name in south fl that the OH town is named after. But it was reported by someone in his family he was being attacked before he ran people over, true or not, you guys already with the news have convicted him before trial, You guys sound like your putting me as a racist for just saying I seen this on another news site, i never said I was for this dude or on his side, but what if he was attacked, just because hes in a hate group it would be ok to attack him??? Well fuck I am going to make a stand and join the klan and go stomp some black panthers, their a hate group right? Its ok to fuck up hate groups right?

Beware wiggers, the klans getting bigger, white power.

Does that sound as bad as "kill white'e black power? Where do you draw the line???

One things for sure, would make a hell of a Doge comerical.

JCIO- Where did I call anybody racist? I simply pointed out the stretch it takes to give any credibility to a maybe kinda sort of story about a maybe kinda muslim connection to Fields and a maybe kinda fight instead of his obvious Neo-Nazi White Supremacist affiliations.

I never said you called any one a racist, just that it made me fell like that, the way you guys were implmenting like I was on dudes side, when I was just voiceing my opinion on the two points I read, the muslim conection was not correct, I pointed that out, but there was mention and now I hear pictures of that dude being punched/attacked in his car before he took off, but dont take my word for it like I was there or made up the story or agree with nazi's. Shit my father was at D Day fighting nazis and lived to tell about it, so if anyone hates neo nazi's here, it no one more than me, but I think everyone maybe jumping the gun on why dude took off in the crowd is all...
my take on the whole deal, there was a ligit protest of moving the confederate statue, which I feel is down right dumb but if people are offended they have the right to go and say, hey move it, but the problem is others take advantage of the protest to go start shit and its on both sides of the fence and look what happend. But just because (if this is true) this guy was standing out there with a nazi dress or whatever, if he was attacked and in fear of his life, guess what. He could prob get off, so if thats the case you can thank the "other" side for attacking him and causing the whole car deal. But just because there is pictures of the guy standing with nazi stuff is not a crime, no more than all the white Supremacy haters, that were standing on the other side with hate signs and shirts and weapons, just maybe (we will see what happens in court) it maybe a different story than what everyone jumped to conclusion on why that girl got killed. Thats my point.

There's never a good reason to run people over in anger. That's why if someone kicks your ass and you go get a gun and come back to shoot them, it's still murder. I'd also add that there simply are no "good" White Supremacists. They are by virtue of their bigotry NOT "good" people.

Both sides had permits for their assembly. Both sides reacted violently. One side has good and bad people in it. The other has only bad. Only one person from the group of only bad people killed a woman by driving into a crowd of people with a 4000 pound weapon. Can we agree on that much?

all I know is hate and anger and violence is bad. Americans love violence. It's our collective societal meth. It will kill us.

Yep but my point is if your being attacked in your car and you panic (just a maybe the way it was) your going to try to get out of there, look at the la riots when people were being attacked in their car and running people over all over the place. Not exactly the same deal here, If people were attacking him after he ran thru the crowd would be more understandable, but if he was attacked before, doesnt it seem others are part to blame?

Just courious, how is the orignal permit to protest the removal of the statues are ALL those people bad?? I can honestly see how the biggots that took advantage of the protest are bad, but there were true honest people that think that those statues dont promote hate. Those soldiers fought and died and are apart of American history that deserve to be respected as such. Just because some think the whole cival war was over slavery only and not southern states not wanting to conceed to the union, maybe alot of people need to be re Educated on the cival war. There will always be people on both sides of the fence who will take advantage of their opinion of the cival war. Those who will say all Confederates are slave owning lovers and bigots who will say its so, just not right.

A good person who finds themselves marching shoulder to shoulder with Neo Nazi's sporting swastikas and White Supremacists carrying torches shouting "Blood and soil!" and "Jews will not replace us" leaves. If they stay in support, they're not really that good are they?
  16. Justcheckingitout

    Justcheckingitout GK Old Timer

alot of the bad protesters on both sided were bussed in to start shit. There is this billionare dude who funds that nazi crap, (just pointing that out on a side note) so the protesters that were there to just show their support for their view of not wanting to move the statue, not bad at all. Just because your some where and there are bad apples in the crowd doesnt make everyone bad apples. The dude with the car and the shit starters, yes bad, peacefull protesters not bad. So I dont think its fair to call all the protesters on one side bad. If thats the case you could argue that everyone on the other side was bad apples because they were there with shit starters on that side....see, ok, back to the Trump story. Lol

So marching in union with Neo Nazi's and White Supremacists is ok? The other side had people protesting against racism, fascism, Nazi's. The Pro statue side supports racism, Nazi's and White Supremacists. How is there somehow a moral equivalency between the two? Are racists who don't hit people somehow "good" people?

Before you answer....the reply you posted above is almost word for word what White Supremacist leaders are saying. It's hard to miss hundreds/thousands of torch carrying Nazi's yelling 'Blood and soil' so I'm thinking they knew what was up. Even wanting to preserve Confederate statues is dabbling in racism. Do you understand how those 700 statues originated?
  18. Justcheckingitout

    Justcheckingitout GK Old Timer

Ok, we agree the hate mongers are bad, and them being at the protest was bad, I still dont see the point where everyone is a bad apple just because there were bad apples there also? maybe someone else here can help explain it a different way other than all of the protesters are guilty by Association of just being there even thou some had totally different Beliefs?

Take any protest, party, funeral, concert, anything where people gather for any reason, say a political rally, any side,... Trump rally...shit starters show up and start racist shit, but everyone dont take off and they are bad too because they didnt leave and wanted to stay and show their support? Do you see my point here? Yeah not a thousand nazis there but same idea about sides.

Just becsuse some protested the removal of the statue with out violence or hate and a different view of the others in the crowd, doesnt make them all bad, Just like every cival war statue is not hate related, Does everyone think all Confederate memorial's are a symbol of hate? A confederate Memorial of 50,000 peoole that died in just one spot to honor the dead, is that hate and it should be torn down? Just becsuse its a southern statue about the cival war it should be taken down? This is the point I am trying to make on some of these 700 or however many there are, they are all not hate related. There are all sorts of memorials for all kinds of reasons in the country about the cival war. Even alot black people think its ashame the way some of these statues are being tore down or moved, can you argue thoes blacks are bad because they too were on that side? Not saying they were standing next to the bad apples but they were there like the other peacefull protesters. Not all had nazi stuff or was there for that is my point also I am trying to get accross.

Another side note...So whats next if all these memorials are considered hate related?....move confederate Cemeteries elsewhere, shit why not close off all the southern states, they were all part of the cival war, but dont make a Memorial of them or some people will be offended about that, it will never end. Lets all quit buying products with cotton, slaves were made to plant and harvest it, it can be argued that way by alot of people...

i am not disagreeing about the hate mongers. Just the point that "everyone" who protest historic Memorials being tore down, is not a bad person just because other protesters are and have different viewes about it.

Growing up in va I understand the fascination with the civil war and I attended and have friends who take part in battle reinactments etc. I'm also attuned to the nostalgic romantic good old days current and I love history. At first I was against removing the statues of civil war military figures until I listened to others who are haunted by the legacy of black slavery, Jim Crow, etc. and I empathize.

If I want to honor the bravery of confederate soldiers I can do it without a statue. To ignore how offensive or even frightening the statues are to those who continue to suffer from racism seems selfish and immature.

But the statute issue is separate from white power stuff. The skinheads commandeered that protest and made it into what it was. The racists are the ones who escalated the thing into tragedy. I think those who went out to protest against racism are heros.

German Jews do not have to walk past statues of Himmler or Göring when they enter the city courthouse. But in the U.S. black people have to accept statues in the public square in honor of men who sought to continue to enslave them and treat them as non-human. Why is that?

Seriously, if you haven't, do a little reading on why the Confederate "hero" statues were erected and by whom. It might shock you a little.

What next? Seems your hyperbole of moving dead soldiers is reaching. Similar to the anti gay marriage folks claiming people will legally be able to marry their dog next. Absurd to prove a point, but senseless in plausible reality. Nobody wants to destroy cemeteries. They simply don't believe it's good or helpful to our communities for statues of hate mongering traitors to the US to be displayed in honor in our public squares.

Supreme Court Justice Taney's statue was removed this week. He was a key vote in the shameful Dred Scott Supreme Court ruling which extended the reach of slavery into free territories and States. Justice Taney ruled that black people should be "...regarded as beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations; and so far, inferior, that they had no rights that the white man was bound to respect; and the negro might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery for his own benefit."

Guys like Taney or Lee don't deserve statues in public squares. They deserve notes in history books outlining the horrible human atrocities they wanted to continue and the twisted backward thinking they used to justify it. was the Confederate south that sought to separate the United States. Funny you should bring such a thing up as a concern to why we should tolerate celebrating them today.
