yeah I read a lot. Not a lot of news. I try to stay a little unplugged. I listen to NPR on the radio, but that's alot of the BBC. No radio talk shows. I read no newspapers regularly. I do read historical fiction a lot, and also books that catch my interest like I just ordered from Amazon a new book called "The Unsettlers: Searching for the Good Life" or something like that. About off the gridders. And another one by the same author called ""The Man Who Lived Without "

I see the evils in the world around me (no reference to the politcal stuff, just in general). My instinctive reaction is to withdraw. But only if I can drag KAC with me to my cave. LOL

 

I never forget. And Rome was around a lot longer than the USA so far too. I try to imagine how unimaginable change must have been to romans used to 400 or 500 years of power. We've been a country for a hot 241.

There was a National Geographic article years ago called "Thier Story is Our Story" that highlighted many remarkable similarities between Rome and the US. If memory serves it was cautionary. I tried finding it a while ago to no avail.

People who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

 

OK so the budget proposal. Take away meals on wheels, healthcare for poor people, and transportation. Give money to military. Note that this budget is not a deficit reduction budget, it is a re-allocation of funds.

The increase in military spending means that money goes to the military contractors. Hmmm. I've been in the wrong business way too long. I need to invent a gun or something. Or software that controls a real live armed drone.

Who got the ball rolling on giving out surplus army equipment to to your local LEO??? So far i haven't seen any repainted black and white armored hummers.. O.D. is a little more to the point... M16 in the trunk every cop car... Better off with a shotgun up front.....

I started watching again now that it's political.. DT has been a gift to them, that keeps on giving and giving... When i used to read the paper, political cartoons and the regular ones made it worthwhile.. Nothings changed..

I just discovered I can watch Downton Abbey on my computer, and I've been obsessed. It reminds me that I really believe in my heart of hearts that I was born to be in the ruling class. I definitely need a valet. A cook and a butler too. How have I gotten on all these years without them?

Seriously. There is something I love about that old feudal class system. I totally indulge the fantasy that I can be lord of the manor again. Just need enough cabbage.

I think I'm just jealous that Trump beat me to the punch. But! A good man is never down long. This rash of anti-regulation sentiment might spill over into the foreign domestic servant industry. My next venture will be to launch a company that specializes in bringing in foreign domestic servants for anybody who can afford them. With any luck I can market a live in maid, butler, or cook (or all three!) to the working class in America, made affordable by the lack of regulation. I will just buy them by the container and sell them at a profit. Keep the best for meself.

I will take the headache out of getting domestic help. My company, aided by Trump's JOBS JOBS JOBS program, will create a shit ton of jobs by making service an industry again. Affordable for everyone except a domestic worker. OK so what rules do I need slashed to get this done? Minimum wage exception. Workers compensation insurance exception. Tax exception. Worker documentation or visa status exception. I figure if you can offer a safe, regular warm place to sleep and bathe and cook, there are a shit ton of war refugees all over the world who would give anything at all for the chance to come live with you, and would be totally willing to be a good domestic servant for the privilege. No pay at all!

I need a law written that creates a indentured servant type class of imported immigrant who gets to actually get in the line to get an application to become a citizen after working one of my jobs for, say, five years. Then you trade up the ones who don't become loyal to you because of your superior merit and morality.

If Trump needs his ICE thugs to do a screening first , or vetting, or whatever nonsense he invents, so be it. But once we know they aren't terrorist and prone to blowing us up or cutting our throats in our sleep, I say the more people I can absorb into the western life the better. Saving the world, one maid at a time.

I'd come up with some screening to do to make sure my clients would be good masters. But we can rest assured those who can afford hired help will have scruples.

It's awesome when the cards are stacked in your favor. It's the best really.

honestly I am appalled at what we are hearing. I seriously doubt trump himself colluded, but the whole thing just stinks worse than anything and the fact that some people are focusing on the leaks rather than the substance of the leaks is basically like admitting guilt. they care more about denying wrongdoing and blaming the whistle blower than they care about protecting our democratic election process. However i also feel this is inevitable inasmuch as we have basically legalized the purchase of power in america with CU decision, so its an open field at this point. lobbying is synonymous with corruption, yet we continue to tolerate it. indeed spread it's practice and influence.

until the people who benefit from corruption are removed from power, they will continue to OK their own bad acts. still waiting for this swamp draining.
