Yes the marigolds are to help with pest insects. And they are pretty!:thumbs-up: otleaf-3: Since I was little my grandmother always had marigolds spread throughout the garden to help keep pests away. I do all organic gardening and I try not to use any insect killer on my outdoor garden. I do use some neem oil on occasion if the aphids seem like they are taking over. I pick tomato worms by hand and I will be getting some lady bugs to release into the garden and some praying mantids too if the nursery has some. My yard is a pretty well balanced ecosystem with lots and lots of shrubs and trees. Lots of toads, lizards, birds, and insects of all kinds. The only real pest that I have had to actively fight has been the gophers. We have seen 2 gopher snakes this year and one was a good sized 4 ft'er. It was laying in the street so I put it down a gopher hole in my yard to make sure it didn't get hit by a car or killed by my ignorant neighbors. All 3 women across the street were yelling about the rattlesnake in the street! :roffl: I said does it have a rattle? they said, No. So I said, then it's not a rattlesnake! :roffl: It's funny how people in SoCal see a snake and it's automatically a Rattlesnake! I haven't seen a rattler around here in quite a while. Just Rosy Boas, King Snakes, and Gopher Snakes. The rattlers are around but their numbers have significantly decreased since I was a kid. Anyway I'm rambling so I'll catch you all later! Gotta go work on the car.
now thats an all around green garden man glad you caught the fucker digging shit up hahaha :cool-pix:
Time for another update. Hey boa, insaneface- thanks for the props on my gopher hunting. The trap is called a "Black Hole" It's a tube that has a spring loaded cable in it that when set in the gopher's hole he can't tell where the end of the tunnel is so he crawl in and SNAP, one dead gopher! It works better than most of the other gopher traps I've seen. We're currently hunting another gopher that just ate the root off of a fairly large tomato plant, killing it dead. In the ganja garden we added the Blueberry mother plant and I will just grow a new mother from one of my clones. It was getting too big for the space under the fluoros and was also suffering from a bad spider mite infestation. I treated it and planted it outdoors. It didn't have much foliage left after trimmming all the scraggly bottom stuff off that was light deprived and I'm not even sure it will survive the transition to the outdoors but I had to give her a chance to flower and see if she can produce some good buds, after all she has been a very good momma. She looks pretty bad here but that's partially because I tied her over sideways against the fence, but she does look pretty haggard. Hopefully she will make a full recovery. The Flo mother that we placed outside is looking good now. Lots of new growth that is nice dark green and healthy. She seems very happy. I hope that the fence training works out well. And here are a few vegi garden shots. Enjoy! :thumbs-up: mrsganjah planting some eggplants to replace the peas eaten by the gopher. mrsganjah picking some spinach in the garden. We added some stevia and some oregano to this barrel with the sage and chamomile. We are getting some vegies now. Very cool. Starting to have zucchini and tomatoes as well as hot peppers. That's it for now we'll be posting again soon. :bong-2:
Very nice veggies RasGanJah! I really do love veggies. I just don't have the time or the motivation to make it happen the last few years. But, next year I will do my big garden . . . with some help I hope. This year we only have 3 tomato plants, 2 peppers plants and 1 outdoor mystery MJ plant. We've already got peppers on our little pepper plants. I'll try to get some pics of my meager crop. It was actually THIS thread that got me to plant the few I do have. Thanks again for the inspiration.
sweet garden Ras! Mine is about 2-3 weeks behind yours, the outdoor veggy garden that is! Nice zucchini there too! Thanks for sharin with us, and keep us updated often! Peace -LM
That momma blueberry looks like a bunch of dead vines:roffl: Good on ya giving her a chance to provide once more. Looks like you and the missus are living a good life. Vibes to the garden "old man" Ras.
Tell me about it RR! I felt so bad for her. She's been cranking out the clones for almost a year and growing under T12 fluoro shop lights. She's all stem and no leaves except for at the top. When I treated her for spider mites she got left in the bathroom for a couple days with very little light. I was too busy to get her planted and I had no room under the fluoros for her big ass so she suffered a little more before I got her in the ground. Hopefully she pulls through and is able to bush up and produce some good buds. She at least deserves the chance to flower. Send her irie vibes and wish us luck with her. Mr D- We will for sure be doing some vegie kabobs this year! :thumbs-up:
Update with pics! It's only been 3 months since my last update! :laughing5: :thumbs-up: Things are looking good. No problems with any of the plants and the weather is still pretty nice. Here are some pics. Some were with the flash and some are without. I hope you enjoy them. The garden. The Vanilluna girls. The Super Silver haze. The Flo
Hey AB!, thanks my man! I'm super excited about this outdoor Vanilluna! She looks absolutely amazing! Big buds with a ton of trichome coverage and beautiful purple coloration as well. I can't wait to smoke some of it.:bong-2:
