Settle for Soil? Okay, I have been to 2 Home Depots, 1 Lowes and one local neighborhood plant nursery. Miracle Grow Organic Choice was the only brand available out of the few you listed. There was some Miracle Grown brand perlite as well. Do you think I should go with that in prep for the next run or keep looking for the better choice? I'm going to keep my eyes peeled. If I want to grow between 2-4 plants, I should get a five pack of seeds? Or if I get a 10 pack can I save the rest for later? Is it worth it? How long do they keep? Thanks again for all your input. The one plant is still hanging on, but very little growth happening. The other is a goner, it shrivels up a little more each day.
Miracle Grow will work just fine. Just don't start seedlings in it. MG soil is all I had to work with for my current indoor run, and so far only the Heri and Kollossos is still alive. It's aborted the fetuses of 1 Blue Chocolate and 2 Mad Shacks. Trying another Blue Chocolate...it'll probably not survive to see my lungs.
Crazy Buds Wow. Impressive. I want to grow bud like that in my closet! Proof that a two liter coke bottle can make a happy home for a Weed. I like that last one, looks kind of like a spaceship for you AlienBait. lol
The little seedling that could...Well, the scrawny one died and the other looks to be pulling through. It's been more than a week and there's been a lot of new growth. The roots look to be getting enough air now and the plant has responded to the lights being closer.I am very nervous when I water the plants. The generic potting soil I used is a really bad consistency. It holds water and suffocates the roots if you use any substantial amount of water.I have switched to using a spray bottle to apply water. It disturbs the soil less and allows me to use smaller amounts of water.I figure I want the plant to double in size before I move it. /monthly_2012_07/57a6ca59eaf90_100_14931.JPG.76cd7f5d5ff0788ecaf853527836a05e.JPG /monthly_2012_07/57a6ca5a1b2ca_100_14941.JPG.1550bf32d1955425ec32036a5fd66ab9.JPG /monthly_2012_07/57a6ca5a3c819_100_14951.JPG.0f6d5f40417149957a578c2cec7c87de.JPG
It looks like it's trying to grow. If nothing else this will be a good learning experience for you. Next time you know that good soil is important. The spray bottle is probably a good ideal. Spray some water and allow it to soak in slowly and evenly, and then spray some more until it's moist but not saturated. asssit:
Still too damp. The wilt pattern of the leaves indicate that the roots are drowning. Let the plant dry out to the point of the dirt pulling away from the sides of the pot. You shouldn't be watering a lil thing like that more than once or twice a week. It could triple in size and still fit in that pot.
Again, great advice. Thanks for the coaching. Yes, this is a great learning experience for me. Damn, these weed plants are not very good swimmers! Thank you RR. I am noticing the continued decay as well. So even less water. Got it.
More Seeds!:coolbounce:Found 2 more seeds! I uncovered them in the first few tiny nuggets I broke up out of my newest bag of what is dubbed 'Mr. Nice'. It's some nice 'heddies' so it's unusual and fortunate to find seeds in weed like this. Always a nice surprise to me. Especially with my growing drive to cultivate. Who knows? There may be more! :5eek: /monthly_2012_07/57a6ca5a59e72_100_14961.JPG.16d7a1eb9194ba6caf0f7d33e044647f.JPG
New Soil StockOkay so I got Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Mix. It was the only thing I could find that matched the suggested standards. I also picked up some MG brand perlite. Anyone have tips on the proper soil to perlite ratio? /monthly_2012_08/57a6ca5a7f72e_100_14971.JPG.63c96c2fa7ff3e515874a4d8560d1f99.JPG
That perlite has added time release ferts in it. You may end up with problems similar to what you had before, with excess nutes. They didn't have any plain perlite? You're on the right track though. There is a Seed company called Mr. Nice. I have some of their strains. I wouldn't call it Mr. Nice. asssit:
Nutrient Issue The MG perlite is the only kind I've seen at any major vendor in NY. Definitely has nutes in it, I see. (nitrates and phosphates) I don't think they are time release though. Says nothing about nutes being coated for time release like my generic potting soil indicated on it's bag. Anyway, I think I have determined the true problem to be root suffocation due to the soil consistency and poor watering technique. The burn only seems to occur shortly after watering. From what the you at the GK community have been telling me, nutrients are not the major factor in what has been plaguing my plants. Of course this will rear is ugly head later on, no doubt.
Not my personal favorite, but those will do fine for learning the ropes. The biggest reason for staying away from mass production fortified soils is you never really know the base mix. They make it harder to track where things go wrong when/if they go wrong. Once you get a grow or two down you'll either be happy using MG products like a few accomplished growers here, or, you'll get the itch to play mad grower and up the game. Either way...looks like we have another one hooked.
I have used MG blood and bone meals without issues, but not their perlite. I hate their soils though. Simply hate it hate it hate it. You can mail order Fox Farms soils if you want, but it aint cheap. Either way, I think you'll get it under control and end up producing some fine pot. Make sure you flush...
Nice pics you share here for your plants. I just ask you one question that how plant suffering most. I see that plant reacted differently but how it is possible?
