I saw a kid at wal mart once buy a truck load of pots, soil and Guano with a credit card. He looked maybe 17, not much older, and is wearing one of those red toke-a-bola chronic t-shirts and the 3 or 4 other kids with him were all similarly dressed and look like stoners... I'm pro-horticulture of ALL sorts, but if I worked there, I would have to stall them and call the cops just because they're that stupid. TO go in a group, dressed like idiots, buy enough supplies to make Mexico look ametuer with a frickin CREDIT CARD... c'mon!!!! When I go sopping for my supplies, I dress professionally, mostly pay cash and never buy it all at once. Plus I only use organics besides miricle gro and if anyone asks I grow Hybrid Kung Pao Peppers, and other veggies, but never say tomatoes it's so over-used. When I hear someone say they're growing tomatoes, I automatically assume they're actually growing pot unless they have a professional appearance. Only person I ever let know I was growing anything was my father because hey.. he's a toker and it was on his land.. on his deck, to be precise, so he knew about it. Let my wife know too, so she would quit asking me why I was buying all those gardening supplies. Other than that, the dumbest thing I ever did with cultivation was let my mom catch me. She threw out all my plants, my lamps, and beat the crap out of me and after that, she took off my closet doors and my bedroom door. Neigbors and friends have never known. Now, we pretty much NEVER have anyone over, and I'm overly obsessed with odors, so the house is LOADED with air fresheners.
quick question about hydro shops... what are the risks one might take upon herself were she to patronize a hydro store, and how can one mitigate these risks. I have read and understand that taking a car that cant be traced back to the home, professional dress, alibi veggies, etc are all good ideas, but in your honest opinion GKers how big is the risk. (Assuming I follow the standard "Dont be retarded" rules.) I am asking more about follow up precautions rather than for the actual visit. Also, would you say it is a good way to be placed on LEO's radar, or am I taking this cautious paranoia thing a bit to far? Again assume I will follow the standard guidelines for not getting caught; I simply want to know how great the increased risk may be, and why. BTW great site, being relatively new and inexperienced I was happy to find a forum so full of information and personal experience. I find GK far more informative than the larger grow forums, maybe its the "Family feel", but whatever it is, thanks!
blwd67 i really dont think the cops have enough time to hang out and check license plates...maybe..havent heard that here in the nc....not sure about whre you live..have you read any stories in the paper...i am sure it has happened just dont think your chances are very good that you would get caught... have you bought seeds..???? buy online...then you have a problem with the ups , usps, fedex people... my point is you have to trust in some things.... i buy at local hydro, and online...have not had problems....i buy seldom and get what i need ...like at hydro..i get everything i need for a year...everything else i get online.... good luck..
Ive been going in and out of my hydro shop for years! Talk about my tomatos budding and when i should harvest them and all that kinda shit. MOST ppl that work at most growshops know whats goin on. Shit id be more worried about the fuckin guy behind the counter at the porn store when im buying a new scale or peice to smk out of. MJ is getting accepted more and more everyday and i really feel that were on a brink of legalization here. Its been a while since ive heard anyone around me thats gotten more than a ticket for getting caught with a bag even. IDK i think this secerity thing is over board, unless your growin 20+ plants. Then id be alittle worried!
thanks guys, I went today and i think im cool, but there was this dude in the shop looked like a total UC and was on his cell the whole time... no suspicious cars outside though, but weird.
Bro if ur walking around like ur hiding something ur gonna get looked at weird. Your growing tomatos or peppers or something indoors. There are alot of older ppl that come in and out if the hydro shop were i go. It also sells stuff for brewin beer too so u have all them ppl looking at me when i walk up to the counter with a big bale of dirt nutes, rockwool, new bulb ect. but fuck them. Its not probable cause to buy growing equipment, just dont go in there smellin like a blunt or blowl and ur all good!
I thought I did pretty well, I do not in any way look like someone who smokes, let alone grows.. I wasnt worried that the guy was scopin me so much as he was a cop just chillin in and around the store. he was outside and walked in right before me then kind of stood there on the phone and walked out right after me, still on the phone. Either way I know I'm golden, just thought it was rather peculiar. I thought the idea of using Visa Gift cards was brilliant; I have no experience with them, do they work the same as a regular CC? Like i can just type the number on the front in much the same way when ordering seeds online? I know I ask allot of questions... thank you for being patient with me.
I have one of them VISA top up cards...just put cash on it and buy I know HappyHappyHighGuy uses ONLY VISA gift cards and a few others when ordering seeds.I rarely buy seeds online unless its a strain that cant be sought on a visit to Amsterdam or via my own supplies or local seedshop.... But i have something similar that im sure you guys have across the pond.Its a 3v card.You buy the card with £25 on it and register online and then you just top it up with however much money you want by getting the guy to swipe it in the shops when adding money to it,the receipt has your new detail each time and the security code is also a new one each time so you never use the same visa number twice but refunds are still able to be made if reuired from online orders ,theres mastercard versions but mines is the VISA version.Its basically a VISA card that i just top up with cash whenever i want and can buy anything i want anywhere online,when you buy the top up voucher in any store with a paypoint machine just like buying a cellphone top up,you get a receipt.It has the VISA card details and then ,once your registered,it sends the 3 digit security code to my phone via a text(sms) but you can choose to recieve email notification if you dont feel comfortable with your cellphone number being registered with the VISA company. I mainly use it for shopping for goodies and stuff from sites like www.madbid.com and www.ebay.com aswell as www.amazon.co.uk. Iv bought seeds,a specific strain i wanted from a genuine company.Iv ordered medication and even stun guns and pepper spray using this card and never had ANY copmebacks. What sucks is they are passing legislation that requires ID to buy phone cards, and probably will spill over to load as you go debit cards as well. I am already on the grid willingly, but for those worried pay attention to the new requirements in the US.
They think my names chev chelios ROFL!!! Not sure if theres pending legislation like that pending here in the UK but i was able to simply purchase the VISA top up card,they do ask for your email adress and its optional if you want to give them your cellphone so recieve your security 3 digit code each time. The mastercard version costs £10 JUST TO BUY THE CARD WITH NO MONEY ON IT!!! And im sure it requires some personal info to activate it but the one im using is 3v and im using a fake name (chev chelios believe it or not) but obviously my oirders can be traced to my home unless i have them shipped to a P.O Box but seeing as im not currently buying anything dodgy like medications or stun guns and seeds are legal here in the UK so im okay but an email adress will suffice for I.D and notifications.Peaceotleaf:
You can use your credit card with broker companies like Amazon.com. I'm looking at my online bank statement as I type this and Amazon charges your card then disperses the cash to the companies that your making the purchase from. I have yet to have one thing delivered to me that wasn't in an un-marked plain cardboard box. Oh and all my account withdraws are just by amazon. What? I like blue-rays and T-SHirts... What can I say.....
Shiiiiiiite I talk strains and everything with my local grow shop owners and workers...but I'm also in a mj friendly state and I am legally allowed to... So I guess it's more accepted.... It's funny because the first 5-10 trips it was " tomatoes and veggies etc.." and then it seemed to just go right to " blueberry, white widow , head band , master kush etc... " lol But I count my blessings that I don't have to be worried.. Thanks to good ol jack herer ! Probably any way !
That's funny. In my local Hydro store I can talk shop with them, as long as we're alone. They do have a sign up that says mention of cultivation of Marijuana will result in you being asked to leave the store and not come back. LOL :bduh::roffl:
Your advice is excellent, my friend. Just sad to see that so many states don't allow people to have this wonderful plant.... sigh. =[.
