As far as Auto Pistols go, i personally don't care for Glock firearms either. If you wanted an Auto Pistol just go with a Ruger P95 . Compact frame 9mm. Very reliable, lightweight, good for concealment, and affordable. But that being said, I still recommend a good revolver. Hammerless or not. I like the Smith and Wesson 649 because it's a .357, so it has stopping power but you can also load it up with .38+p rounds. It's small and great for concealment, (many Police Officers and detectives carried it as a ankle gun or in their coat pocket when off duty. It's often referred to as a "pocket gun") The best feature of the gun for me is the "bobbed" or shrouded hammer. The gun's hammer has a shroud around the sides to prevent it from snagging on clothing etc. when being pulled from a pocket or under a coat. However it can still be manually cocked into position while in concealment from a pocket and fired single action. I love the balance of a Smith and Wesson revolver. The featherlight and featherweight models are pretty cool too. They make an all titanium model that is sooo light it feels like a toy in your hand! For your first handgun you can't go wrong with a Smith and Wesson Revolver. :new_2gunsfiring_v1:
Agreed on the dogs...and the .357 revolver. Every once in awhile when I get home after dark, and the opportunity presents itself, I will sneak quietly up to my house and see how far I can breach my perimeter before my dogs go apeshit. :monkeydance: :monkeydance: Usually not far at all. They've scared the shit out of me a couple times. Once I speak, they know it's me and the tails start wagging, but they've lunged at the sliding door so hard I thought it should've shattered. :dog:
Go to ranges, they normally have "rentals" try many different guns. Get the biggest caliber you can shoot accurately. A .50 wont do you any good if you cant hit your target. And I have seen people killed with a .22. All the range time in the world will not pre-pair you for a SHTF shooting. I have seen veteran military turned police officers unload magazines at a perp and hit not one round. The adrenaline will get you, and you will pull that trigger 30times on a 14rd mag and miss every time. Take Classes, take some psychology classes. Read "the gift of fear" and "on killing". I consider both of those required reading to anyone that carry s a gun. I carry a XD45ACP Service everyday. I also have 1911's in 9mm and 45. I have a Glock model 22. a Glock model 19 and a Glock model 17. I dislike the Glocks, I but they work when I need them. I have them all placed threw out the house. Behind my bedroom door is the 12g with buck and slugs on the side rail. If I roll out of my bed onto the floor my AR is right there. I have always had a plan to fight my way out of the house. I also do not have a room(even the bathroom) that does not have an accessible but hidden gun. With my past career, I have had people break into my home to kill me. I have shot an intruder dead on the staircase to my room. I have also come home and found people in my home. I have nailed people in the middle of the night in my vehicles. It is a dangerous world. The more you ignore it, the faster you will get hurt. started rambling again. I have seen to many good people get hurt, trying to save themselves. There is no such thing as to safe, to aware, to much training and to smart. Learn your states laws, be able to recite them at will. And know what they mean. Sit down with a lawyer and debate about the laws, so you can fully understand them.
i also forgot to mention that whatever you buy/or before you buy it, give it a work out at the range and make sure you don't have a feed or cycling problem as all guns are different.(you will also be more confident in your purchase) i have shot over 30 different handguns and never have had a jam in one or seen a gun jam. the only time i've had a misfire was i was shooting my cousins shitty ammo and i don't think it had enough energy to push the slide back. Murphyslaw, do you have trouble getting the last couple bullets into your glock 17? the last 2 on mine i swear my thumb is gonna snap!
Smarmy, you cant shoot that gun when your NOT home.....and believe me, the ONE thing that WILL keep someone from entering your home is DOGS!!!!! Especially guard dogs..........also the signs for guard dogs too 155lbs of German Kimbertail Rottweiler, 7 yr old male, as long as I am around him hes cool, but when theres nobody home....:roffl: :roffl: :roffl: :roffl: COME ON IN, if you dare, lol And IF you can get past him theres another 65lb Pitbull waiting too, good luck theifs!!! Besides just having the guns in the same home as the grow automatically gets you 10years right?
awesome dogs! i wish our insurance company would allow us to have more "manly" dogs. for now im stuck with my sisters 15lb yorkie poo and a goldendoodle while she goes to college. these dogs are so whimpy and annoying, but love getting high. whenever i smoke they crowd me.
our insurance policy excludes certain dogs.(i know its fucked up) pitbulls, rots, there is a whole bunch.
I have one of those. Very light titanium. Fits my hand well. Accurate enough to get the job done. Never had a problem with it. I think most of the accuracy problems are due to the excessively long pull of the single action trigger. At least for me anyway.
True story, theres 11 dogs on the agggressive dogs list for insurance companies, they have the right to drop you at anytime if knowledge of these dogs are on insured premisis......Trust me it happened to me the very first house I bought when I was 20yrs old, some years later when I got my Rott as a puppy.......The insureance guy come over to look at a leak in a roof and he noticed the GIANT pile of shit in the yard.......he asked about it jokingly and I said it was my dogs, obviously, well he asked which type of dog it was, I told him as to the pedigree and having papers and such......he said nothing.......then he came into the house to check the area with an insurance contractor......he met the dog....had no issues........3 weeks later my BANK called me to let me know my homeowners within my escrow acct. was dropping me because of the liability of said aggressive dog..........FUCK ME....anyhow, they did just that and I had to find an off the wall ins. company to cover my home and a separate one to cover my dog....like an additional $18 a month......not a biggie but WTF????? Now I have learned from a friend, if you have any dog in the house and have to acknowledge it for whatever reason.......SAY ITS A ***MUT*** with no referance to pedigrees, regardless of what it looks like or how obvious it is, trust me it'll save you a TON of heatache and money:roffl: :dog-nana: :dog-nana: :dog-nana: :dog-nana: :dog-nana: :dog-nana: Oh yea, I know some ofthe dogs on the list are........Pitbulls, Rottweilers, German Shepareds, Dalmations, Bull Mastiffs, Akitas, Dobermins, certain terriers Read this it kinda helps http://www.ehow.com/facts_5711880_dogs-breed-list-insurance-companies_.html
security Our house is protected by DACHSHUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 24 HOUR SECURITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One on One a intruder can handle them. All at once no way. My power and gas man are both frightened. TEAMSTER6
You aint said shit Chris!!! They are a pack and will surround a intruder then they all go in on him at once and they have nice long Teeth with the ability to lock their jaws. Teamster6
They Bite Hard As Hell! God damn wiener dogs!!! That is the only dog I've ever been bitten by. :new_cussing: They are ferocious little bastards!
They are small but dont have mercy on intruders and have no fear. Thats why they were bred to go down badger holes. grab the badger locked jaws and drag him out tuff little shits hence the name Dachshund (German for Badger Dog) Teamster6
I agree with the dogs I got a small lab, and a big shepherd a crazy one too. Anyways fedex dropped off some stupid bank paper bullshit and the dogs were barking the whole time guy ran from his truck to the front door and back to the truck haha. Also with security systems I never use them but I use the signs haha, also beware of dog signs are good to put out in the open. A gun locked up isnt going to help much if an armed burglar comes in.. Me I prefer hunting knifes, throwing knifes. I got a badass Gerber is flips out just as fast as a switchblade but isnt considered a switchblade, that and a putting iron are both next to my bed.
Good point on the beasts guys. My useless hunting mutt does a 100 times the job protecting my home than I do. Something about the sight of 90+ pounds of fur and teeth snapping on the other side of the glass that puts bad guys off. Like Tron said- I'd lose the police alert security system too.....just asking for trouble there.
just get one of these smarmy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JHOMvro0Ls&feature=related people will think you own a polar bear from afar.
wwboy i would have to say dogs----i have two german sheps and they are quite the deturent---most loyal and very smart----ive kept them isolated from anyone other than there (pack family) on purpose and i can honestly say i feel more than comfortable leaving my door unlocked when i leave te house---i own a firearm as well but never want to be in a position to use it on a punk kid or poor slob jist tryen to rip me for stupid little shit-----i like my dogs---thats plenty------ive never shot anyone but when young did end up stabing someone---bad bad bad feeling over all that--not a easy as one would guess--anyway im all for dogs.
