Change the res weekly. Its an ounce of prevention that is worth a pound of cure.

I am changing the res every week also because of the weekly feeding schedual.

That's cool, but as long as the feeding schedule levels are going up, especially in early veg, the PPM meter will let me add to get them exactly where they need to be. Without the meter I would change out weekly for sure.

Now for flowering where I use additives to the regular nutes it will have to be changed weekly.

I'm trying to save some work and I just hate the thought of pouring nutes down the drain. I considered using the veg water on soil plants and adjusting the nute level but the PH is way to low for that. I poured some of the water thru the Promix soil I use and it tested blood red.

But we do what we have to do.

Well today was one week and I went to the two week feeding schedual amounts and when I changed the res, I did have a small amount of slime, I washed out the tote good and changed the water, adjusted the ph and added nutes, roots are about 8-9" long and hanging in the water good, the plants are starting to show a good growth and healthy leaves,

So what causes the slime and is some ok between weekly changes?

Light leaks and contamination from hands/fingers/tools. You adding H202? Adding 1ml per gallon will discourage slime.

Yeah, I had my hand in the cookie jar...:BangHead:

Not adding the H202, but will now. is that Hydro peroxiod? My spelling is bad.

  7. friendlyfarmer

    friendlyfarmer Rollin' Coal

Yep, it's hydrogen peroxide. The concentration you use is what counts. The stuff you buy at the drug store and put on cuts is 3%. What I use and most growers is the 20% H2O2. Stuff is very caustic.

I've never used peroxide but I've read to be careful with the amount. It will oxidize what organic material it comes into contact. It will deter to algae but can fuck with the roots if there's too much.

I'm sure the farmer knows what he's talking about, I'm just saying too much can cause a problem. And I think you should let it stand 1 to 1.5 days before using it.

I've never let it stand. I just have always measured and dumped it in. No ill effects. Too much is a bad thing. It can burn your roots. I don't know how much is too much but sometimes I wasn't as careful adding in the right amount and still no damage.

Ok, 1 ml per gallon with the 20% h202 should do me ok,

Letting the H202 stand a day, what does this do?

  11. Lvstickybud

    Lvstickybud Bongmaster

The only thing I can think of is that it gets weaker and makes you wait an extra day. Like I said earlier, I just measure and dump it right in.

  12. friendlyfarmer

    friendlyfarmer Rollin' Coal

Yeah I just dump it in as well, but I'm in a flood table, and I don't add shit when the table is flooding. If I was in DWC I'd mix it up separate and then dump it in so you don't accidentally hit the roots with a concentrated amount, because it turns everything to oxygen, good or bad.

You'll be good with 1ml per gallon. It will discourage slime.

Thanks for the tip, it reminds me of Herb's bowl of vinegar trick, every trick help's in the grow play book.......:coolbounce:

It will kill the shit you don't want in your water pretty quick and gives the excess time to dissipate before subjecting the plants roots to it. Probably doesn't even need to be that long if you're aerating. Once it's gotten rid of an oxygen atom there's just water left.

I am going to repost a couple of questions on my thread here I posted on another thread,

    1. The 29% h2o2 bottle I got from the hydro store says, use 3 ml per 4 litters, is this too much?

    2. The product "Great White" says to use every 3-5 days, can I just use it once every res change? Does there have to be a waiting period after using the h2o2 to use the Great White?

  20. friendlyfarmer

    friendlyfarmer Rollin' Coal

    1. Four liters = 1 US gallon so they are recommending 3ml per gallon and I use 1ml per gallon. I dunno. Maybe I should up my dosage. I have had problems with slime in the past but I don't remember how much I was giving them then and I am sure it was sporadic. I don't have slime now AFAIK but I've only been running 2 months in tables. I think you are safe anywhere from 1-3 ml per gallon. Try two and see what happens. I will too, and let you know if my table dies off or something.

    2. a) Never used GW so don't know.

    b) same as a.
