I got my giant pumpkin started. I decided not to use my own seed and went with this instead. This seed is from a former giant pumpkin world record holder named Joe Jutras. It should grow a big one.

Here is a link that shows the seeds lineage.

How do you keep the deer away?

Those assholes eat our pumpkins every time we grew them so we stopped. No shit the use to use what ever fencing/deer preventative to hold the pumpkin in place while they munched it

Do you have a site to buy seeds?

No need to buy them, just go here http://www.bigpumpkins.com/msgboard/ViewBoard.asp?b=1 and they will give them to you for nothing. Just make a post that you are looking for seeds. All you need to do is supply a self addressed stamped envelope. I have a lot of them and I got them all for free. If you can't get any over there let me know and I'll hook you up. In fact any of you that want some, let me know, they are free. I have some that have world record genetics in them too.

This guy has a lot of free ones...

Well, my garden has stalled out. My tiller wasn't working right and once I "fixed" it the shear key in the shaft holding the flywheel in sheared off and took a chunk out of the crankshaft while also screwing up all the threads on the shaft for the rope pull clutch. Been waiting on my neighbor to till it for me with his but I keep getting put off. Looking for a new crankshaft ATM.

That's messed up about your tiller bje. I had the same thing happen to mine. Every time I try to start it gas just floods out of the air filter. I took the whole motor apart and still can't figure it out. Oh well, on with the show.

I planted my giant pumpkin today. I dug up a big hole and filled it with composted cow manure and a bunch of the corn and sunflower stalks from last year. I am going to leave the rest of the stalks in the garden and just let the pumpkin grow over them and compost them. The largest pumpkin I ever grew was 335 pounds so if I get one bigger than that I'll be happy.

Dang 335 lbs. is a pretty big pumpkin. I tried some pumpkins one year and got a few decent ones but it rained a bunch and Mildew got em. Hope you break your record. Oh ya, neighbor let me borrow his tiller so it's on now.

Everyone throw down with some garden pics!

1187 Jutras - You can see that one of the leaves has something funky going on. The plant is growing fine so I am not going to worry about it. I may have to train the vine in the direction I want as it is growing to the side. With pumpkins if you plant the seedling facing in the opposite direction of the first true leaf, that's the direction it will run. Apparently no one told this plant.

Give me a sec, and I'll throw together a lil video tour. Seems to work better than my upside down pics.

Summer has been here a while. Nice looking garden :thumbs-up: I just have a raised one this year. Will have another one next year in ground where a small pool is now. Love the sunflowers!! Pumpkins and corn are very cool, I don't have enough room for those this year. Got chives, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, peppers, radishes, asparagus, zuchinni, yellow squash, spinach, arugala lettuce, carrots and green beans.

Nice MG! I started my indoor veggie garden a few days ago. I had an extra flood table that I filled with coco and planted a bunch of different stuff. I'm hoping to get outdoors going this weekend. Are those zucchini in that last shot?

That's an Atlantic Giant pumpkin (if you're asking about canna's post, yes, zuccini). One thing I discovered this year with plants started in hydro, make sure that you harden them off good. If you don't the leaves get this washed out look to them. Good luck with your garden!

These are both clones from the same plant. The one on the left was cloned into soil, the one on the right in perlite. Notice how the one on the right has some washed out looking leaves. This does not happen to soil plants as far as I can tell, only hydro. I also had this happen on my tomatoes which I started in perlite. When they wash out like that they get serious transplant shock and the growth just stalls.
