Awesome garden MG. Mine is twice as big this year as last year but unfortunately it seems to have less in it. I got a late start on it, then we've had insane amounts of rain here in the Northeast and its taken its toll on my garden. I will still get lots of tomatoes and hopefully plenty of corn.

Looks like you eat well all year long!

Thanks. That damn pumpkin is taking over my entire yard. My corn went to shit, I've got nutrient issues with the soil that I need to take care of this fall. Good luck with your garden.

What do you do to keep away these tomato worms? These are so adorable I am having a hard time killing them. Though the more I find....the more it looks like they are going to take all three of my 5 foot mater plants. I would love some preventative measures if anyone has any. I mean I can just pick off the 'adult' larvae.....I don't know...I hate to kill but I have found like 20 now :/ I am thinking about boiling them :/ seems quickest. Dude. I would not make a good farmer.

Planted marigolds but apparently did not keep them away enough, can you spot the 4 in this pic alone?

Go to Ace Hardware Canna and get three or four praying mantis cases. They take about two weeks to hatch but they will take care of the worms. Another organic control is Bacillus_thuringiensis (BT), you can drink the stuff and it won't hurt you but it kills those caterpillars dead.

Diatomaceous earth. Dust the plant and the hornworms will fade away. Pick off the ones you can find...a single hornworm can nearly strip a tomato plant overnight. If you want a nature lesson look for any that have little white balls on them and keep them. Some wasps lay parasitic eggs on hornworms that hatch and eat their host from the inside out.

MG- that garden is off the hook brotha.

Thanks guys I am going to go with the BT and the Diatomaceous earth. Yeah res tell me about it with the stripping of the plants. I only noticed them day before yesterday and they took half a plant. At first I was like awwww these are so cute, now I am not so much.....too bad they only eat tomato plants. I want to just move them elsewhere but I know that will just cause them to starve slowly.

MG I actually have found 4 praying mantis over the past 2 days, just while watering flowers. I guess I will move them over to the garden from now on :)

Hey what do you do with those pumpkins? I am so curious. I am thinking like county fair entries over here. I watched your whole video. I kind of want to hide in that pumpkin plant and scare the shit out of people or something. That is just nuts.

In the past Canna I took the pumpkin and entered it into the giant pumpkin contest they have in Elk Grove every October. I am not sure what I am going to do this year because the size of this one os already bigger than any I have grown previously. That means basically that I am not sure how I am going to transport it. The last time with a 335 pounder it took six of us to get it in the truck using a giant pumpkin tarp. I don't think this one is going to fit. I have a tape measure that is for estimating the weight of giant pumpkins, if this one ends up over around 500 pounds then I may hire a crane (they are cheap) to come lift it and put it on a trailer and take it to the contest. Years prior I put it out on my lawn after the contest is over, the neighborhood kids love them around Halloween.

Freakin tomato worms! The ones I find I give to my chickens, they love 'em! I need some praying mantis cases, the worms are barely showing up here but they come every year in force and you gotta do something about them or they will kill the plants.

I love zucchini. My Grandmother has been making Zucchini Relish for a long long time. It's a family recipe. I don't know of anyone else that makes a sweet zucchini relish. I am gonna grow some zucchini next year and attempt to make my first batch on my own. I've made it with my Grandmother a bunch of times and as far as I know I'm the only other person in my family to have the recipe and to have made it anytime recently. The zucchini are best when they're younger and more tender, before the skin and outter flesh get too thick and tough and the seeds get too big. Somewhere between 4"-8" is usually when I harvest mine but I've grown some whoppers bigger than my arm.

Picked this stuff out of the garden the other day.

That looks really good Ras. I just now am getting pablano chili's and red pepper chilli's from the garden. I've never tried growing eggplant. Another good sweet thing to make and can is pickled watermelon rind. It's pickled with a sweet pickle formula plus some different spices. Someone gave me some last year and it was damn good.
