Yes Lion, the razor principal is a valid critiqe of peoples logic. It plays out most of the time. That is the reason, that the older I get, the slower I am to rush to hang a man.


When I was in my early 20's? I was all big in the death penalty. I now accept that the legal system can railroad a bum, so, I came off of that deal.


SOMETHING dastardly is going down, I HAVE to accept that, from the most casual observations. I don't have absolute truths, but something is askew.


We keep coming back to WHAT to do. I'm not ready to advocate for calling for harm on folk's, but something besides nothing needs to go down.

 

Exactly. I can't say for sure what's going down...I can speculate, but to say I know for sure would be arrogance on my part. I just know that something smells and I want to be ready for whatever it is. One thing I DO know is that EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON, and nothing that happens in this world happens without someone saying it's OK to happen. LOL! Yeah...I'm ripped. Sue me.

I was watching the news the other night and they did a local story on how gold is being snatched up eveywhere and that it's up to over $1000. and ounce. Pawn shops all over the place are jumping with either people selling off their gold just to pay the bills, or people pulling out of the stock market and buying up all the gold they can. Unfortunately it would seem that the writing is on the wall and people are starting to panic.

 

Yup....I told my dad to buy gold MONTHS ago. I forget what the price was then, but it was far lower than it is now. He thought I was nuts and flat out refused to buy any. I wonder what he's thinking now?


The whole reason commodities are going thru the roof is because the market is so uncretain at the moment and people want a 'safe' haven. They are also getting into commodities as a hedge against the falling dollar. Funny thing is.... people are now selling off hoping to turn a profit while the price is high when in fact...it's gonna go much higher very soon. The markets always shake the little guy out by dropping a bit...then they take off after the BIG guys buy at the lower price. If you REALLY wanna make some $ on gold....hold onto it for now and let the price dip pass....you'll be glad you did.

It's been a while since I posted to this thread because I think everyone pretty much sees the writing on the wall now.....least I hope so anyway. Besides the fact that it simply depresses me every time I think about the state of affairs we now find ourselves in, I just can't see beating a dead horse by posting daily headlines talking about how fucked our economy has become and how it's not gonna get any better any time soon. Same shit different day pretty much. Today I found a different story that I thought was worth sharing though. It brings to light a way for us all to finally weild the one power we DO have left in this country...the one thing that corporations fear the most...consumer buying power. Call it their Achilles heel if you will.

 

I hear ya Herb as you and I discussed this for the past years....you warned me to prepare for my daughter, family and I. That is why I have looked into other resources for heat and so forth. The only problem is being I live on the East Coast it will not help as like you told me as well....we will be hit the hardest. Unless one lives way up in the mountains as with the global warmingl....we are truly screwed. We will have more and more radical weather where the coast where I live will be subject to the worse storms ever and will end up under water. Everything you discussed with me is coming to life every day. My gawd and look at this recent earthquake...wowies is all I can say. Sure they knew there was issues there but back then there was not all the buildings and cities and that was no lil one either that struck.


I think it is time to pack it up soon and move. My brother is also looking to relocate out your way but he has been for quite some time as he loves Cali. My mum does as well. My father well being in poor health said he is not moving....I need to get him to fly out there and show him how pretty it is and all the wildlife and mountains as I am sure once he sees it...he will hopefully change his mind.

Nah, the US is going to have a massive head ache. Mild ressession. (US citizens stop the spending!) But i think the money markets will sure up by the end of the year and UK and europe central banks seem to be doing the right thing. If they keep inflation in check we should be ok. The banks have had there face slapped and might wake up and be a little more risk adverse.

It is funny that the US is now the one who is borrowing money from other countries and we are the biggest consumers but now we are belly up broke.... so I actually giggled at your post. People are not buying houses and houses are not selling. Landlords are the only ones making money as more and more people have to rent as they lost their house.


Maybe our government should get a nice slap along with the banks.


I did love how they finally said on our local news show last night "America is now in a recession" Well no shit! We all knew that months ago...ha

I am a little pissy about not being able to get as much rice in the stores now as they already started rationing it. Good thing I have some extra but my family eats lots of rice so that won't last too long. I will be in rice withdrawl...ha

 

Americans are still spending. Fair enough they are defaulting on their homes, but for some strange reason they are defaulting on the house first, not their credit cards.


I think they are thinking they can dump a massive debt (the mortgage) if they give their house up, but they want to keep buying things so they keep the credit card debt going. This is true, some strange ppl out there but their doing it.


They have no social responsiblility. They get into trouble and ofset the loss onto the banks by just throwing the house back at them. That in turn causes the banks to lose money and makes the credit crunch worse.


The individual has to take some of the blame here. The banks have been totally irresposible giving idiots debt, but if they didnt then you'd have crys of "I'm thick, default on loans all the time and am generally totally irresponsible, but the bank will not lend to me. I have a right to own my own home!"


Governments want their populations to have assets and in a perfect world that great, but i really dont think that a 1/3 of people are intellegent enough to have them! If you dont understand the form, or cant even read it, dont fucking sign it!

Could not agree more skuzz which is why I will not use a credit card as I feel if I do not have the money to buy it...then I do not need it. I have my debt check card which works like a credit card from my bank and has the visa thingy that I use but that isn't like a real credit card. Just your banking card.


I would never want to be like some of my frds at work who owe more then 20,000 just to credit card companies as the interest rate is so high and they pay usually the minimum. Your right....people need to take responsibilty for some of their debt when they are materialistic and charge card happy. One should save their house first....you have to have a place to lay your head. I do feel for people who have lost their jobs as that sucks. Lots more being laid off everyday too. Glad I work in Education as they also state that it is one of the most secure careers now as well as the health care profession. Kids need to go to school and people get sick.

 

I don't know much about the economy, never had a pot to piss in my entire life. I do know as far as I am concerned, Maine never got over the first depression, and we are in a second. They have cut so much out of the budget I know I am not the only one to find myself suddenly unemployed. The first thing that goes is our humanity, so of course human services is the first to go, but I got canned faster because I worked with the elderly. We all know that the old folks should just go off into the woods or an ice flow and just ease our burden of them.


I live in one of the poorer counties, and the mental health system has just collapsed. We are seeing way more folks on the street obviously without their meds. We are fastly becoming the richest third world country in terms of medical care and treatment. We have the highest infant mortality rate for all industrial countries.


The state of our health care speaks to the state of our nation, or is it the no child left behind, that is leaving all of the kids behind, and other countries are laughing at the dumbing of America. What is wrong with a nation that doesn't care about their children or their elders? It is more than just the economy. We have our priorities out of whack.


Oh well, appreciate the info, I heard that greenspan said we are in deep shit, and I guess i believe him. He is to stoic to sound an alarm without reason.

If you've been lied to, then whos the fool here? Em, you for falling for it. The general populations of modern societies need to stop re on the state to look after them and get an education and take responsibily for themselves.

 

I think this entire recession/depression (if we get that far) is being purposely caused as a preface to the North American Union we have seen reference to around. I believe the prices of goods, including gas is going to continue to rise and rise. Unemployment will skyrocket. The housing fiasco will continue to get worse. Basically it's going to get much much worse. Then when we are all at our weakest, the North American Union will be forced on us as a way to re-stimulate our economy and create jobs and new opportunities, blah blah blah. :idgaf:..and because as a nation we will be at the absolute lowest point this generation has ever seen, the sheep, out of desperation, will go for it.


Most people I have talked to about the N Am Union say that there is absolutely no way that the people of the US would ever go for that, and under normal circumstances I would agree, but in the face of real hardship and desperation, most of which not many living people in this country have really ever seen, I believe the American people could easily be convinced it would be a good deal. And actually the government will just do it, and tell us its for our own good, but we will be more accepting of the idea.
