carpet is cheap to replace and cheaper to install, id find your seams and pull it up from there and go to a rental place and grab some industrial fans, the low to the ground plastic ones, not the giant ass 4ft tall ones......and blow em up under yer carpets..........call an installer and have himm restretch and fasten the carpet back down, prolly a few hundo.......OR call your landlord:BangHead::roffl::roffl:

get a rug doctor and suck as much water up as you can. pull the carpet up and let the padding dry or you will get mold.

don't know how bad you ceiling is but oyu may want to try and poke a couple small holes so it does bow or get mold.

    fans fans fans

Sorry, the video is linked, just made it unlisted. This happened before and just using two fans over a period of 4 days dryed everything up. The Res stands on an end table, it took most of the water. You'll see in the vid. I'ma just try to try it out with the fans I got. Temps are real cool in there, and with fans blowing, doubt I'll get mold before I dry it.

Cool. Thanks T6. :passsit: I don't know what your talking about when you say I need to be good at sheet rock? I thought if I just waited until all that was dried out, remove that layer of paint, and then paint over it? Wouldn't that hide that the roof has been damaged? I rent and am moving in a few months, I could give a fuck about this place. Another really good thing is that before any of this ever happened I was already having water leaking issues from both my toilet and bathtub, same situation, dripped all the way through to the kitchen, so I prob can get away with just blamming it on that if it comes down to it. These places are 12 years old, and need updated.

Chaz, the wet switch I showed cannot be used in your setup unless you are using a pump for filling the res. Even then you would have to rig a 120/24v step down transformer into the mix. You would need a 120/24 volt relay in the mix also. The idea being that the 120v side of the relay is wired to the pump, the 120v line voltage is wired to the input side of the relay and then you take low voltage from a timer and conect it to the coil of the relay. You splice the wet switch into the voltage feedng the coil. If things overflow then the wet switch gets wet and opens. This causes the coil to lose voltage which then causes the relay to open and that shuts off the power to your pump. It sounds complicated but its actually quite simple. You can't just paint over sheet rock that has gotten wet. Use a product called Kilz first (if you leave the existing sheet rock in place), then paint over that.

I am not very familiar with this beyond my own experience. I had a 125 saltwater tank break due to an improper stand. I think when they say fans fans fans, they mean lift the pad and carpet, and blow the fans underneath. Also, industrial fans. We had people come out and do it. Dry in a few days. If we hadn't it would not have been livable (especially because the nasties in the marine tank are a lot worse than RO water) Also we had a leak once upstairs directly above my bed and the ceiling started to bow. Poked it and it exploded all the water onto my bed. Watch the ceiling leaks. AND when the tank burst it caused a small electrical fire. Make sure your smoke alarms work! Sorry man that REALLY sucks.

Ok editing I see this is a few days old, I havn't been around much, how is everything?

Everything dried up in like 3 days with mulitple fans, and the kitchen roof just has some marks from the water driping through the bedroom to the kitchen, but my dumb ass did it again yesterday, just not nearly as bad. Man I got to stop eating those damn cookies! :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

Duuude lol. Well that's it. I just moved my res into the shower. I am not taking any chances! Any chance you have a tub or shower nearby so this doesn't happen again? ;)

I bet it smells just 'lovely' in there, eh? Glad you are moving!

Or you could just wait till your done with the work you need to do BEFORE you eat the cookies. See, this is what I meant by "common sense."

We're going to have to start to nickname you...."Dixie"

It's hard though man, these RO units take FOREVER! ;) And cookies....they are just RIGHT THERE

I will admit I have forgotten twice before, just each time it was right before they would have overflown rather than after. I feel better now that they are in the shower though.

So, if anything, I have at least learned from your mistakes. ;D

Chaz-pop your water bubbles-dry that drywall out before it pulls off the nails-scrape off the loose paint and re-tape the joints-paint ceiling. Dry out the carpets-don't pull any thing-the dry carpet will pull the moisture from the pad-may take a week or longer. If you dry it out-no mold. I give you this simple advice as the supervisor for a nation-wide maintenance company that also does flood and fire damage-and mold re-mediation. It looks worse than it is-your structure is in no danger, and there is no need to spend a ton of money re-placing carpets and renting equpment-just set up some fans to dry your carpets and feel the drywall for moisture before you re-tape and paint. Peace
