I use RooTech rooting gel and Clonex cloning solution in my EZ Clone machine and I get roots regardless of temps within 10 days. If yours have the little white nubbs then they should shoot out some roots really soon. asssit: Your plants look awesome. Very healthy. :goodjob:
I completely disagree. RW will get the job done but I never got 100% or nearly as fast as I do in my EZ Cloner. I cut, dip, insert into cloner and walk away. Don't even give them another thought until about 10 days later when I check them and they're always VERY WELL rooted with a ton of fishbone roots. asssit:
Do you think 75F water temp is too low or too high? I took a cutting off one of my flowering girls and dipped it into rooting hormone and stuck it in the cloner. Ill see if that one roots faster. Im really bummed about this round of clones. I was hoping for much better success. They got another week and Im going to start all over again. I WILL WIN. Im determined to get cloning figured out. Its always held me back.
A few of the clones have 1/8th inch roots today. Some of the others will soon by the looks. I just dont know why it took so damn long to root. Next run Im going to add an air stone to the ressy and see if that helps things out. 15 days today and they need another 3-7 days IMO. Thats too damn long. Maybe the high humidity of the basement also hurt things. I dunno but I gotta get it figured out.
I would think the high humidity would be beneficial to cloning. Maybe the airstone would help. 75 sounds pretty close. 70 would be better, but 75 should be fine. That's strange that they took so long.
Yes to the airsstone. I run 2 big airstones in my EZ Cloner. My temps range from 75-90 degrees in my veg room but I still get roots within 7-10 days. I typically get those little nubbs to 1/8 inch roots within 7 days and full roots within 10-14 max. I highly recommend Clonex liquid cloning nutrient solution. It has really accelerated the root development & I always use RooTech Cloning gel on my cuttings. I like to take my cuts and let the stem sit in the cloning gel for about 30 seconds to 2 minutes at least to allow the plant tissue to soften up and absorb some of the hormone before I put them in the cloner. I like to score the bottom of the cutting as well. Very lightly scrape just the outside skin off of the stem before I dip them in the gel. I keep them under T5 lighting raised about 12" from the cuttings. I have had 100% success rate. Recently (last week) I realized I was flowering out the last plant I had of 1 of my Tahoe phenos and so I took a single cutting from the flowering plant (2 weeks into 12/12) and did my regular routine with it. It had 1/8" roots within 7 days even with temps of 85 degrees everyday. I know a lot of people say don't use anything in the cloner except water but I have to say that while plain water will work, a light nutrient solution speeds things up a lot in my experience. My first run I used plain water. Got roots in about 14-17 days. Next time I used a 1/4 strength Useless week 1 formula and got good roots within about 12-14 days. Since then I have been using Clonex liquid solution at the recommended rate and I have seen another improvement to 10-12 days for good roots. I think the difference is once they start to form the nubbs of roots they can start to absorb nutrients and that accelerates the root growth. Rather than having to use up stored nutrients from the fan leaves the cuttings actually start to grow both roots and new foliage while in the cloner due to the fact that they have the correct available nutrients. Clonex has B1 in it also and I think that plays an important role as well. What I do know for sure is that what I have been doing has worked far better than anything else I have tried up until now. Previously I always struggled to have enough clones and now I have all I need and more.
I can easily lower the water temp. Next run I will add a couple airstones into the ressy and I will use Rootech cloning gel on all the cuttings. I used it on the clone I took as a test cut off one of my flowering plants. Time will tell if that one roots faster. Thanks for the replies folks. I look forward to having roots in 10-12 days. I can add a frozen water bottle to the res to lower temps no prob. 75 is the water temp, air temp in the cab is 70. At least I will end up with some clones out of this run instead a complete failure. :BangHead:
I'm telling you it's not temp t hat's your issue. 75 degrees should root just fine. Like I said I get well rooted clones within 12 days at water temps of 85+ degrees. Right now it's 89 degrees in the veg room. My water usually sits at about the same as the room temperature. The airstones will help in my opinion but if I were you I would get some Clonex liquid or try the 1/4-1/2 strength useless formula week 1 veg if you have the GH Nutes for it already. It'll make a difference.
The vitamin B1 is a good tip Ras. B1 is a root zone stimulator. Thrive or SuperThrive have good contents of B1 and most any garden store has B1 supplement root ferts that can be used in small amounts for cloning. Remember start with low dose, you can always increase.
Thanks. I noticed that once I started using the Clonex which has the B1 along with a perfect ratio of nutrients for clones I got much faster results. It cut rooting time by at least 2-3 days over nutrients alone. Perhaps next time I'll try the 1/4-1/2 strength Useless with a few drops of superthrive or B1 added to it and see if it works as well as the Clonex has. I just finished my bottle of Clonex. It's not too expensive though so I don't mind buying it since it works so well for me.
I have some superthrive coming. I ordered it to add to the cloner. I will get some airstones next time I make it to walmart. I just changed out the water and added 1/4 strength week 1 nutes to help feed the newly rooted clones. Give me a minute and I will post a pic to embarrass myself haha
Poor babies! EDIT: I probably should add that these clones were cut off my outdoor plants and they DID bring a pest along with them. Some little white looking thing. I dunno what it is. Ive killed all ive seen with my fingers. I will eradicate whatever it is when they have rooted, if they arent gone already. Even still I dont think that slowed down the rooting personally.
ph your water/nutrients solution like it was hydro to 5.8 also. I failed to mention that before. Mine looked like that when I used plain water. They eat up their stored nutrients in the leaves trying to build roots. Some strains clone easier than others too but so far I've not had any issues with any strain in my EZ Cloner. Since starting to use the CLonex my clones don't lose color or eat their leaves at all. They stay green and happy all the way from the time I cut them until I plant them.
That is something I havent done and didnt even consider. I used water right out of my tap. I will check pH in a minute and adjust accordingly. Most look like they will have roots in a couple days so Im happy about that. I will look into getting the clonex. Thanks again.
Quick update on the garden. All 4 plants in the flower cab have turned out to be hermies. Go figure. :BangHead: I have removed all pollen sacks and will finish the grow out regardless. Gotta love unknown genetics. So this obviously pissed me off, so I went to The Attitude ten minutes later and ordered beans. I order 10 Reg beans each of Nirvanas AK48 and White Rhino. Im sorry but Ive had nothing but great luck with Nirvana strains so keep going back due to the price. I am going to pollinte a bud on each female with the best looking male and make seeds for later. I was also given a container with probably 1000+ seeds. Some nearly 10 years old. I have 10 soaking right now. Could be some treasures in these as well. These came from a local long time grower who used to grow some seriously potent smoke back in the day so I look forward to see what might come from these seeds. Most of the clones have rooted now and will be going into containers later. I need to build a larger veg room because Im going to have way too many plants growing here shortly haha. Today is the end of week 3 flower. Peace -V420
Bummer about those hermies man. :BangHead: I hate hermies. Good luck with all the seeds and I'm glad to hear that your clones are rooted now. My latest batch of clones is rooted as well. I took 20 Tahoe OG clones exactly 1 week ago and they are all rooted. Some are very well rooted already! asssit:
Only 1 of my clones was from these plants. All the others are from my outdoor plants which are a different strain. Life goes on. These plants are frosting up nicely and have a nice fruity smell so hopefully the smoke will be ok also. Cant be any worse than the mexi brick that can be bought around here :thumbs-up: Ive started 15 of the mystery beans and will start 5 of the AK48 when they arrive.
