Ofo - Yeah the AK48 I grew was nice and frosty. They started getting frosty around week 3 - 4 of flower. I did have at least two different phenos, one of which wasnt nearly as frosty. I believe alot of it has to do with veg time personally. The older more mature plant was alot frostier. I setup my old CFL cab yesterday in the new location and put some of my old clones in the box. It was pretty depressing to see how badly they looked. Spindly little stretched out plants. Thats what happens when amateurs take care of plants :321fu: They will bounce right back nicely now that they are receiving FAR better light than they were getting. Two 4' tubes and a couple 26 watt CFLs lighting about 20 plants that get watered once every two weeks or so makes for some sad looking plants... Mind you this is in a wide open room also and not a cab. I cant wait to show this guy what plants are SUPPOSED to look like :thumbs-up: Ill try to get some pics up in the next few days if they arent still too embarrassing lol
Alright, might as well show you guys what Im working with for this year. There are other plants as well but these are the most mature plants that I will be able to get clones from in the next month, month and half before I can put anything in the ground. Ive got some unsexed bubblelicious that desperately need a transplant as well but they are even more embarrassing than these. These plants your looking at are all badly neglected AK48 clones from my previous grows. They are looking pretty sad and spindly right now but I will turn them around over the next couple weeks with some good feedings and better lighting in the cab than they had been getting the last month. They should be able to produce a fair amount of clones before planting time. I will also be starting some autoflower plants a week or two before its time to plant. I will be allowing the males to take advantage of the females so I will still have beans of the autos to work with in the future. I have dreams of making feminized autos still but it might never happen. Either way I dont want to lose the genetics. Peace -V420
Well they dont look so bad to me!! Shit the way you were talking I expected something with a couple of leaves. Rock on!!! Teamster6
Yeah I guess they could look worse, its just that they are so SCRAWNY. The branches are so small right now and flimsy that I almost dont dare to try and clone them.... Ill give em a week and see how they look. With no indoor garden I need a successful outdoor year or we will have to continue buying. You all know how bad that sucks....inferior smoke and overpriced :roulette:
Today I seriously tortured the plants, hopefully they will all survive. I had to do something drastic though as the soil they were in was the worst Ive ever seen! I floated the fuckers for a half hour each to attempt to water them....well it didnt work. That soil wouldnt absorb water for nothing so I ripped them from the pots and broke up the root ball until it was the size of a softball or so and replaced the soil with MGOC. I expect them to suffer for a bit but they should all bounce back. They are starving to death right not but there was nothing I could do since they wouldnt take any water/nutrients. I expect to see a big improvement in a week or two. Im starting a couple beans tonight that I will be throwing in a micro CFL box I used for clones before. Hopefully they all sprout and have a fair chance to mature before they go into the ground. They are all feminized beans. 2 GHS GWS and 2 DNA Kushberry. Ill keep everyone posted. Peace
Best of luck to ya Vigaro420, I've had similar problems and I used a steel dowel to penetrate the soil in lots of places, to aerate the soil. I'm not sure if that would have been useful for you, but I wanted to mention it. Good luck and I'm sure they'll be ok soon.
I hear ya Rky. I would have gone that route but at the same time they were starving to death so I figured they would benefit as well from some fresh soil and just went with it. Im trying to scrape together $100 to buy a tent to put the 400W HPS in so I can start flowering indoors again as well as do the outdoor grow this year. I started on digging some holes yesterday in a new location. I dont expect to have a lot of plants out but I would like to do it in a couple spots just to be safe. Why is growing illegal again? Seems I should be able to put my plants right in the middle of a field and not worry! But NOOOOOOO you gotta go out into the bush and attempt to clear a spot so you can get some sunlight on your babies. Total BS. Im getting excited though. The weather has been nice lately so I thought maybe I could get plants out a bit earlier than I had originally planned. Then I woke up to 22 degrees, heh. Its tough trying to find a spot somewhat close to home, near a source of water where others arent going to find your shit. I have a couple ideas though and plan on doing some more exploring over the coming weeks. Ive got one secure spot thats been used in the past though, just no access to water. I NEED to get back to indoor gardening!
I picked up some material today for construction of a new cab. Now Ive got a question for everyone. If you could build any size cab you wanted to run a 400W HPS in what size would it be? I was kinda thinking around a 5' square cab again because I like the light saturation with 80WPSF. So unless I hear otherwise the cab is probably going to be 36" x 20" x 6' I plan to begin construction sometime in the beginning of next week.
That's similar dimensions of my cab and I'm running a 400. I tried just using S&P fans from the jump but it was getting too hot. Once I upgraded to a Vortex things got more in line. Since you have roughly 6" more width, I would think temps would be perfect. If I had built mine by hand I would've made my depth more like 26" to give more room. When I close my doors I'm always scrunchin leaves against the door. Glad to see you jumping to HPS bro can't wait to see the progress.
Yeah Im not so much concerned about temps. Im growing in a basement now where the temps are much cooler. I was able to keep things cool in a smaller box with only 4' of headroom so this will be easy. I cant wait to get started on it. Ill be making the frame of the box with 2x4's so stability wont be an issue like it was with the last box I built. I figure it should be done by next weekend or so. I would love to be able to get some plants into flower next weekend. Ill keep everyone posted on the progress. BTW, the 4 feminized beans I started all have a tap root, w00t. Im going to give them another day and put them into soil. Peace
Well tomorrow is the day for cab construction. It wont be completed tomorrow but I hope to get the majority of the work done. Ive got to juggle easter with the kids in the morning then later in the day get to work. For anyone trying to figure out how to cut plywood to get the maximum out of it with minumum waste I have to recommend this program http://www.delphiforfun.org/Programs/CutList.htm its free and works well. The entire 5.5 square foot cab will be made with 3 sheets of 3/4" plywood and and 6 eight foot 2x4s. Pretty damn cheap I would say. Internal dimensions of the cab will be 36"W x 22"D x 72"T. I will be running just under 73 Watts per square foot. If finances fall right I may get a CMH bulb for the second round in the cab. If I manage to get as much done as I would like tomorrow I will post some pictures. In the meantime Ill post some seedling porn to give you folks a laugh.... The two in the back are DNA's Kushberry and the front two are GHS Great White Shark, they are about 3 or 4 days old (arent they cute!) Peace -V420
Thanks MrGreenJeans. I hope to someday grow some ladies that look as good as yours! Blah. Well nothing went as planned today. Seems thats the way things always work for me. I just got started working, got the 2x4's cut to build the frame when I plugged in the air compressor and *pooF*, there went the power. Now I was concerned from the start whether the wiring where I am going to be growing would be good enough for the 400W light and all ventilation. Now I still think that all takes less than the compressor does but still stressful just the same. I can make some changes though so that everything will run just fine without electrical concerns so no worries there. So yeah, cab isnt finished by any means. Tomorrow Im going to give it hell though. Easter was a bad day choice to start the project but I thought things would work well since the wife was going to be home. Oh well. So TOMORROW I hope to have most of the work done. This is going to be one heavy ass box for just 5.5 square feet. Luckily Ive got some badass 6" caster wheels to put under her so I can move it around easily. I really cant wait to see it done. It cant be finished soon enough. Ive got 6 ladies that are more than ready to flower. I pretty much plan to stick with my previous growing style of running 3 plants at a time. I might change that after a grow or two but right now, given the dimensions of the box, I think it will work out well. I was seriously considering doing SCROG but the more I think about it the less it seems worthwhile. HPS has penetration power (limited however by the 400W), it almosts seems worthwhile to veg to around 20" and just let em go. I might have to try a grow both ways to see how it works out. Im going to be going back to hempy style with 2.5 gallon buckets after the first round in the new box. The plants I have right now are in soil but when I take clones they will be going into hempy containers. I just like the control I have over nutes in a hydro setup. Aiight, sorry for the rambling, I just burned one and was frustrated and wanted to tell someone about it. I promise to have a picture to post up of the cab tomorrow (other than some miscellaneous length 2x4s in a pile) :roffl:asssit: Peace out GK -V420
Man I guess I forgot how much work it actually is to build a cab. Especially considering Im trying to do it while watching my 3 year old boy. But today I did make some great progress. The cab is entirely constructed. Tomorrow I will cut the holes for ventilation and throw a couple quick coats of paint on the inside. Once the paint is dry I will get to work on all of the electrical work. I figure it should be at least 90% complete tomorrow, if not 100%. So again, sorry for no pics but tomorrow I wont disappoint. Ill have some ladies going 12/12 by the end of the week. Stay tuned :thumbs-up: Peace -V420
You folks getting tired of these updates with no pics? Well as usual, I didnt get as much done as I had planned. I got the intake and exhaust holes done, and two coats of paint on the inside of the box as well as got the electrical boxes mounted (same ones I used on my last cab). Tomorrow the wife has the day off so the rest of the project will be completed (have I said that before?) :roffl: This time I mean it though. I cant get far enough away from the cab right now to get a picture of the whole thing but here are a couple of pics. BTW, that stuff you see in the corner on the left side of the bottom pic is that foil HVAC tape. Ill have a strip on every seam inside the box for 100% lightproofing and sealing. There WILL be plants in here going 12/12 on Friday! w00t! Peace -V420
Hey Virago coming along nicely. :thumbs-up: One point I want to make. I would run the system for at least 24 hrs with the lights on to make sure you don't have a heat issue before I would put plants inside of it.
I plan to do just that. Now I know there isnt going to be any heat issues as the room the box is in is cooler than the room I grew in before, but I plan to run it for 24 hours just to ensure that everything is working properly. Cant wait to post some pics with some ladies in the box :thumbs-up:
