Well I work for WM..Currently, I'm averaging about 6 hours a day or less on a 3 day work week. I make about $20 an hour, I like the job and it's laid back, but I'm looking for another gig as the 6 hour days last for a good half to three quarters of the year.

Funny story, well not so much really, but I was talking to a guy from the maintenance department and we have about $60k worth of scrap copper laying around that their going to just throw into a trash compactor to go to a landfill. That floored me...We have about 500 associates at my job and the cash from the copper would have made a nice bonus check, especially when they know their employees are hurting.

    Fuck Walmart

Ive seen american cars. Im not buying american!

Seriously though, what does america make? Im guessing pretty much the same as the UK. Fuck all!

We used to make stuff, but we dont now. Both countries got the middle class disease. The last few generations have been, education, education. That gives kids big ideas and big expectations.

In the UK we even pay them to go to higher education. :wtf?: Why pay an average individual to go into higher education. Whats the point? They only get there and take up sociology or media studies!!!! Hows that going to help the economy. Manchester Uni used to offer Klingon for fucks sake.

All of these average ppl leave uni thinking they are the dogs bollocks with their degrees and that they are going to get a great job earning millions. Guess what? You're not, get in the dole cue!

These ppl should have went and got a trade. Plumbing, electrician or something. The thicker ones should have just settled for the factory job like in the 80's. But no, everyone these days thinks they are going to be a brain surgeon or hedge fund manager. Fucking morons!

What you need is a good caste system, like this:

"they are divided into five castes and designed to fulfill predetermined positions within the social and economic strata of the World State. Fetuses chosen to become members of the highest caste, 'Alpha', are allowed to develop naturally while maturing to term in "decanting bottles", while fetuses chosen to become members of the lower castes ('Beta', 'Gamma', 'Delta', 'Epsilon') are subjected to in situ chemical interference to cause arrested development in intelligence or physical growth...People of these castes make up the majority of human society, and the production of such specialized children bolsters the efficiency and harmony of society, since these people are deliberately limited in their cognitive and physical abilities, as well as the scope of their ambitions and the complexity of their desires, thus rendering them easier to control. "

We produce crack babies, entertainers who live like royalty, junk that after you buy you wish you'd bought the other brand that a pre-teen sweat shop slave made held together with super glue.

We also produce high quality marijuana but it's 'illegal' so our economy still is shit. We produce good liquor and alcoholics. We produce good sandwich meats and pizza. McDonalds and burger king, Wendy's and a bunch of other artery clogging, stroke-inducing fast food joints.

We also are the primary middle-man hub of the world's most productive drug cartels supplying the world with quality cocaine.

In other words, we supply and enanble the production/distribution of a whole lotta crap we'd all be better off without.

How the hell do you make $20 an hour at walmart? Must be where you worked.. The suckasses who got the best raises and didn't do shit but get under the desk and pal around with the managers didn't even make over $15 an hour. I had to work there for 4 years, tried applying at jobs everywhere and no one was hiring except for maybe less than what walmart was paying me. All I can say good about that place was it was a steady paycheck when I need it.

They can sell cheaper than other stores because their secret is skimping on the employees. The low wages, the fact that they hardly hire full time anymore, even if their benefits aren't exactly the best, and they cut back hours so much on people I don't even see how people survive on it - except for link cards/goverment assistance and family help. I had been griped at many times for having overtime on my check, and had a couple of friends get their asses reamed and wrote up for repeatedly having 10-60 minutes of overtime on their check every week. Imagine losing your job and explaining to the next one why, I got fired because I stayed around on the clock working too long?

And it's true most everything they sell is pure junk. About the only things worth getting there are electronics and food (for the supercenters). And even then you have to watch the expiration dates on the food because lazy management and employees often don't pull expired or soon to be expired stuff of the shelves enough. But people shop there, by the hundreds every day. Management teams don't really give a crap about the customers, from lack of employees to provide customer service to just simply ignoring customers in general because their philosophy is that even if you are mad today, you'll be back next week with a cart full of groceries. I was told that by our store manager personally. And it's true. Customers I saw throwing a fit to management about this or that you'd see them back in a couple days, buying something else.

People bitch about walmart all the time, but we will all still shop there. Only if everyone would boycott Wally from one town to the next nationwide, maybe then they'd hurt. They'd shut down their stores, fire off all employees and we can hope someone else brings something else better to work at, but odds are they'll be just as greedy and do the same thing to America.

they'll throw 38 hours at you to get the most they can from you without paying out the benefits of a full-time job, too.

yea the full time people get dropped down to 34-36 hours a week and part timers can get 40. Cashiers are cut the worst we had some in our store scheduled 8-16 hours a week. what's the point in even working there for that?

Nah, those illegal immigrants get paid that NOT because American workers can't be found, but because those undocumented immigrants work for practically nothing AND tax free.

I've tried it. Why should they hire me for 8.50 an hour when they can hire 10 mexicans for the same and let them split the payout AND not have to file any employee paperwork?

But on the other hand, most americans do think they're above physical labor. Personally I hate it. Break your fucking back for practically nothing.

Especially the tobacco fields FUCK that. The work itself is rough enough but then you get nicotine poisoning to boot and get 7bucks an hour

so by your theory, anyone can work at a register, true, "but someone has to since not everyone wants to" by your next argument, so with that being said, why can't Walmart have a cashier there full time, or more than 8-16 hours a week?

I get it that those of us who didn't pay $394,231 to go to some high prestige college and get a diploma are fucked to work shit jobs like walmart and therefore we somehow aren't "allowed" to bitch about what it entails, but there still is some common decency and a fair chance given to try to work for a living, otherwise you lucky people who could afford your fancy degrees will continue to bitch about taxes going to our nation's poor.

Maybe the day will come where you can just shoot old and poor people and make room for yourselves but by process of elimination you too can be added to the list. We aren't Communist yet though.

I started out as an unloader, moved on to the Inventory Team. We basically became like department managers of the backroom, but about half the pay and lots of responsibilities for things we couldn't even control. Man I'm glad I don't work there anymore.

My job really isn't that bad. Like I said earlier, it's laid back and the work's easy. I drive a forklift for a living plus I'm a trainer, it's just the hours that are killing me..Last year I made 35k but with all my hours I'd have hit 50k. I guess it boils down to the economy and everyone bitching about the crap they sell. I don't shop there myself.

You'll have to forgive my rant I've had these arguments before with people that had the attitude well if you hate your job just quit. Well its not that easy when you live in small town USA and good jobs have downsized or left the state. Its also not so easy to pack up and move either when your spouse has a decent job but not enough to afford the home bought together near a loving family that can help out.

Im with you. I never finished college. I dropped out and got a job. Studied while working. Dropped out of that too. Ive got experience now though. Im always on the look out for the next opportunity and took some risks (ok some times i was pushed, but authority don't always agree with me lol).

Im doing ok now. Been running a small company for nearly a year now and today i got offered a financial director job working for a client.

Im no where near rich, but i do ok. We live a comfortable life.

If i had finished college and went to uni, I think i would be on the scrap heap. Im not academic and if i went to uni i would have spent four years off me nut. I would have left with an average degree, nothing special. Id never have gotten a similar job. If any see that 50% of graduates spend over a year on the dole, then get a job at asda stacking shelves.

Id also have about £20,000 worth of debt round my neck!
