Ok, I would just like to point out, BA, that you judged me by looking at someone else (SS). Please don't. Those of us in more diverse parts of the US do see what's going on. But what can we do to stop it except vote or have a revolution. Personally, I don't think we should be giving Isreal so much support, but I don't have that much influence, and not many people do over here. You are trying to educate us, so tell us how we can change our government policies when all we can do is vote for the lesser of two evils in every election?
Sylent, can you tell me why you think European countries should support anti-terrrorism funds ? When the hell did we help the British and Ireland end the terrorism in the UK ? Why should people pay to end the problems we started ? Most of the terrorist attacks in the world are directed toward the U.S and Isreal. Our economy was built on the backs of slavery and the pillaging of less developed countries, then leaving them after we take what we want. LOL and you want others to pony up for our war against people that hate us ? Europe is a bigger and easier target then we are virtua. In the past 6 months alone there have been several arrests of terrorists who had checmical weapons & explosives in France, Germany, England and I believe Italy and Spain to. Terrorism is just as mush of a problem there as it is here, maybe worse because it easier to attack Europe than it is the US. The IRA is a local problem, and if we got involved, Many Irish people would tell us to stay out of thier business. Islamic terrorism is a global problem and needs to be fought on an international level. Im sure you know all the attacks by islamic terrorists virtua. Its not just an American problem. Remember the Bali bombing last year where 180 australians were killed? Or pan-am 103 over lockerbie in the 80's? Or in Russia when that theatre was taken over and hundreds were taken hostage? Americas not the only target, and were the most hated. Millions of muslims like America and have helped us fight terrorism because they see what these people have done to thier religon and they dont like islam being used as a tool to murder innocent people all over the world. If it was simply an american problem, then i could see why they wouldnt help, but its not just us. This is a problem the whole world has suffered from, and the whole world needs to fight against if were gonna stop it.
Virtua, you need to read some history. Terrorism in Europe has been an ongoing problem all through the last century. Have you ever heard of Bader-Mienhof gang, the Red Brigades, Isulu, Basque Separatists, etc? The Moslems are the new kids on the block in Europe, but terror has been around since the late 1800's with the Anarchist movement. Europe has a much bigger terror problem than the U.S. will ever have. Now, about this crap about the US economy being built on backs of slaves, that is just pure bullshit. At the height of slavery in 1860, the cotton plantations (where the slaves were) produced less than 10% of GNP. How does that build an economy? Even without the civil war, slavery would have dissappered by 1880, it just isn't a viable economic system. It costs more to care for a slave than it does to pay wages, and after the invention of the cotton gin, it wouldn't have been feasable to have dozens of slaves doing what one machine can do.
The US economy was built on the backs of hard working immigrants who came here for a better life. America is the great nation it is today thanks to Adam Smiths "Wealth of Nations" and the new capitalism, along ith Democracy and Industrialization. Smith argued that the production of wealth would increase dramaticaly if individuals were allowed to pursue their self-interests, with little interference from government. And in serving their own interests, individuals would serve the public interest, unconsciously, as if guided by an unseen hand. Better the unseen hand than the hand of the State. It worked, and has been working for over 300 years, well after slavery was ended in America. If slavery was so profitable than Africa would be the richest country in the world because the slave trade still exists to this day in the diamond mines, some of which are where Al-Qaida's money comes from.
